You Add a Frame, and All Hell Breaks Loose.

A few months ago, I finally ponied up and hung our tangle of mirrors (plus one piece of framed art) in the office. For far too long, they’d been sitting in a jumbled pile on the sideboard, taking up space and driving me ca-razy. Until recently, they’d been looking quite pretty, reflecting the sunlight and all…

… Well, you know, until this happened.

What we’ve got:

1. bikes on our ceiling!
2. the new painting chair
3. a shoebox full of Halloween props + a bin of Renegade table settings
4. and a new (sweet) frame we scooped at an estate sale while in Grand Rapids

It seems that as soon as the new frame hit the ‘board, we began the trend of office neglect, and continued to pile all of our things in there, too. Yes, the bikes have been there for years, but add to that Deb’s handcuffs from October, our big Rubbermaid of last year’s Renegade settings (which, of course, we needed so we could take count for this year’s inventory), and a painting chair without a home (because hell no I don’t keep it at the table when not in use. I’m far too nuts to allow it – mostly), and we’re back to the bastard room of yore.

But I have a pretty good feeling that once we get that frame on the wall, everything else will become orderly as well. One step at a time. Renegade will have happened (Dec 3rd and 4th – see you there!), I’ll finally give the borrowed ‘cuffs back to my ex-cop neighbor, and the painting chair – well, we’re working on it. (Maybe it can tuck behind a door?)

Regardless, we stashed pretty art paper in a tube several years ago (which is really the skeletal system on a fancy sheet of wrapping paper for less than $4), and there’s no doubt it’s aching to get out and into that frame. Of course we’ve still got a Milk Toof to mat and many holiday sales on the horizon, too. So, come to think of it, that frame’s still a wild card. In any case, we’ll pick up our glass at Ace and reinforce it with cardboard backing and staples like we did here.

While the wall ‘o mirrors was intended to hover over the sideboard, the pretty new frame begs for expansion. Perhaps it’ll look nice above Grandma’s mustard chair? And then maybe that’ll encourage more frames and more art, and really, what could be wrong with that?

In other news, how have you been? Any frames in your home destined for art? Or paint? Or a spot on the wall in general? And hey, who’s hungry for turkey? No, it’s not too early to stretch those bellies.

  • I think you should definitely expand the collection. That long frame would look great hanging over the chair and then you can always add more around it. :)ReplyCancel

Is that a black horse in that picture of said frame? Whatca’ gonna do with that missy??? ;)ReplyCancel

Hey, Jen! I just checked the print (to make sure), and there’s no horse… Just a little village scene next to a lake or some body of water. I’ll most likely stash it in a tube, since I have way too much guilt to get rid of art. Do you want it?!ReplyCancel

We finally hung an assortment of pictures/goodies on the empty white wall above our TV. It’s not complete yet, but it already feels better to look at. Pics to come soon!

By the way, I LOVE the blue paint on your walls!ReplyCancel

Sam: Thank you! It’s called Distance by Behr.

Jen: No worries! The branch is actually an ex-boyfriend’s hand made of wax from my college days… Weird, huh?ReplyCancel

Silly me, I thought the branch on top of the books was a horse in the picture. Duh~ Thank you for the offer! That was so sweet. I’ll let you keep it :)ReplyCancel

  • I have that exact same skeletal print… it’s also waiting to be put in a frame. :)ReplyCancel

Meh, that’s how life goes. As soon as I don’t put something away, a zillion things no longer get put away either. If only things got TIDY as easily as they become UNTIDY.

This is my first time visiting your blog and I love it! I’m adding you to my list of blogs to follow.ReplyCancel

We have a 100 year old metal vent frame we found under the porch. Brian polished it up and sealed it. It looks great, but we need to figure out how to actually attached glass to it… maybe it needs to be plexiglass. Happy Thanksgiving.ReplyCancel

Tina, that sounds awesome! I think you’re right – plexiglass would do the trick. And happy Thanks giving to you, too!ReplyCancel
