Working As a Blogger and Learning to Say So

I had the opportunity to sit down with Sarah Bagley a few weeks ago to record a podcast and talk about all things blogging. Sarah’s personality is so warm and inviting, and despite my own nerves, it felt like I was sitting down for a long lunch with an old friend.

We cover a lot of ground, dissecting everything from life before this little blog, how I made the scary(!) leap from my 9-5 to working for myself full time, and just what in the world is a spaghetti number. I discuss why we ‘blogstorm’ for the sake of our marriage (and Scott’s, too!), how our sponsored posts really come about, and I share the warm fuzzies I have for the friends we’ve made as a result of this job.

Finally, I’ve put it out in the universe that this will be the year I perfect my very horrible, very meek elevator speech. The next time someone says, what do you do, Kim?, I’m going to own it. Simply put, I’m a blogger (and home renovator and photography lover and pet painter!), and I share why it’s so hard to say so. Luckily, I’ve got a new accountability partner in Sarah!

If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of Yellow Brick Home, the business of blogging or how to transition from A to B, you can take a listen right here!

And from the bottom of my very happy heart, thank you for following along! It’s something we don’t say enough, but we could scream it from the rooftops, we love you so.

I’ve had to start telling myself the same thing this year, “I’m a blogger!” the words always feel so unaccredited, so I back out of saying it, but this is the year of bravery!ReplyCancel

Thank you for being on the show! I had the best time speaking with you! I’ve delivered my elevator pitch a few times…sometimes better than other times. But I hear you in my mind whenever I’m tempted to downplay my work. :)ReplyCancel
