We’re Growing Up

Holy smokes, you guys. Yellow Brick Home turns the big numero uno today! To be honest, we knew the big day was quickly approaching, but it wasn’t until we started digging back through our archives that we realized June 14th was the day. Wow. 365 days and 117 write-ups later, here we are. Sounds like we’ll need to have a sweet, gooey cake on the menu tonight.

But we gotta give it up to our good pal, Renee, who gave us that extra (not-so-subtle) nudge towards entering the blogosphere. It’s hard to believe that it was only last Spring when the three of us were sitting in our living room, while she questioned us on everything from how we installed our shelves to how we fold our blankets. Of course she followed up that fateful night with an email a day prompting us to start this very blog, and for that, we owe you one, Renee!

We’ve had a blast documenting the ins and outs of these digs, even as we blindly feel our way through this big, world wide web. And don’t you know, we’re still learning. But it feels quite amazing to share our ups and downs with all of you. So for that, thank you. Truly, from the bottom of each of the five hearts in this home, we thank every one of you. Your encouraging feedback, advice, and super sweet words keep all these hearts tickin’, and we’d surely give you a fatty kiss if we could. Even that couldn’t begin to show you just how happy you make us.

But now we have to wonder. While we have gotten to know a handful of our readers over this past year, there is still so much more we want to know. Who are you? Where are you? What makes you, well, you know…you? Tell us all about you. But to be fair, we’re all about sharing, too. Go on, ask us anything. And of course we’d love to know what else you’d like to see here on this ol’ aging blog of ours. Consider our ears opened.

Congratulations! Thank you for all of your advice and inspiration. For the record, this San Francisco newlywed would love to know how you fold your blankets! :) (My makeshift linen closet is such a mess!)

    Cheers,

    Hi Melissa,

You can thank my lovely Grandma for my queue on folding blankets! We have a cubby in our entertainment center for throws, and I simply fold the throw into thirds, then roll it as tight as I can. They all tuck in the cubby space nice and neat, plus it looks cute, too. I do the same under our bathroom sink for all of our towels!

    Give it a try – It’s truly a space saver!ReplyCancel

Congrats!! I can’t wait to see what comes out of Yellow Brick Home in the next year!

Maybe you could do a few house features in the future? I have a feeling you have some pretty creative friends up there. With your photography skills, I’m sure it could be a hit!ReplyCancel

Well, hello from another usually-silent reader. I’m coming up on my 1-year wedding anniversary (as well as 1-year living in SoCal, 1200 miles away from everything I’ve ever known). I’m a grad student and my husband and I have been working to fix up our little apartment without spending much or doing anything permanent. I love reading your blog and getting inspired to get up and do something fun and beautiful!ReplyCancel

Nicole, happy anniversary to you, too! And thank you for the kind words!

Susan, I see you just had a blog anniversary as well! Congrats all around!ReplyCancel

Just wanted to add my congratulations to the rest on your one year blog anniversary. You both do an excellent job of writing (clear instructions and fun writing style) and the photos are fabulous too.

My job as general manager of a used furniture store in Carol Stream, IL is only one piece of who I am. I am a wife of more than 25 years to Michael, a mother of two almost adult kids (Abby is 21 and Jack 19 – both are in college), an avid reader, a frustrated decorator and a great lawn mower!ReplyCancel

Congrats! I have the shortest attention span ever when it comes to decorating – hopping from one project to the next without sometimes finishing the first.. I’m working on that, though. :)

Love your blog even though I’m a newer follower.ReplyCancel

I like both! I love pops of color, but the new color is also very soothing for a bedroom. Looks great!ReplyCancel
