Vlog: Let’s Go to the Flea Market!

We’ve been looking to add a little extra oomph to our corner of the web, a way where we could connect with you on a fun and more personal level. And so over the last few weeks, we’ve been giving vlogging a go! We started with a mini introduction on our about page, and we even shared a few snippets on Instagram last week.

Today, we’re taking you with us on our first flea market adventure of the season to Elkhorn, Wisconsin! The Elkhorn Flea Market is one of our seasonal favorites – worth the 1.5 hour drive from Chicago, for sure – and we pick up a couple treasures along the way. I overuse the word cool, Scott can’t understand the importance of CC’s play kitchen, and we eat fried cheese before 10 AM. (Plus, we give you the inside scoop on the one thing we buy anytime we find ourselves in Wisconsin.)

It would mean the world to us if you let us know what you think of this new-to-us format, and a huge thank you for all the kind words and feedback so far! You can subscribe to our YouTube channel here, and we’re all ears (um, eyes?) for any suggestions you’d like to see in the future. We’ve also added a YouTube icon in the menu, up there on the right. We’re excited to start sharing our projects in this way, and we hope you enjoy the first official episode!*

What other videos would you like to see?

NOTES
These are the show dates for the Elkhorn Flea Market
Our favorite booth: Rivich Antiques (and the chairs we bought from them 2 years ago!)
I love vintage photos, but I promise I was kidding about the baby
• DIY light kits: Snakehead Vintage
For sugary, yummy pastries, go to Roeser’s Bakery
Our favorite backpack (it holds everything)
 Best easy-drinking beer!
• Still in the flea market mood? Let’s go!

Edited by our talented friend Hannah Stephans
Music: Moi Je Joue

*All the exclamations can’t be helped. We hope you’ll love the spontaneous video from time to time!

Love the vlog. So nice to see and hear you in action. I think the flea market is the perfect place for this format, where you’re moving around a lot and seeing different things. Too bad you didn’t find any great deals at the flea.ReplyCancel

    • Kim6.2.16 - 8:14 AM

Thank you! It’s all the thrill of the hunt… Our little things were still worth it.ReplyCancel

  • Ashley R.6.2.16 - 8:39 AM

I love your youtube so much already was subscribed from the first time you released a video. There is just something about video that photos lack to capture but I also super enamored by your style. Both of you have a wonderful eye and have really inspired me to diy and thrift finds. My family and I are looking to purchase a house and are also looking really forward to renovating it!ReplyCancel

    • Kim6.2.16 - 9:33 AM

  • Sarah Matthews6.2.16 - 9:59 AM

Loved this! There were so many things I saw that I wanted to but but you guys definitely found good stuff! Hope you do more of this!ReplyCancel

    • Sarah Matthews6.2.16 - 9:59 AM
      • Kim6.2.16 - 10:17 AM

Thanks, Sarah! This flea market takes a lot of restraint, haha.ReplyCancel

  • Gretchen6.2.16 - 10:07 AM

Love it! I usually skip video tutorials, but this was really fun to see you guys in action. I liked the alarm clock and all the extra details you put in.ReplyCancel

  • Whitney6.2.16 - 10:15 AM

Ugh, I got serious flea market fever watching this video. I’m going to have to find one to go to this weekend!ReplyCancel

  • Julia [Chris Loves Julia]6.2.16 - 10:36 AM

This is my new favorite thing! You both are adorable and we’re booking our tickets! Tell CC that play kitchen will become a reality when I get there.ReplyCancel

    • Kim6.2.16 - 11:01 AM

Yes! Chris and Julia: WILL TRAVEL FOR KITCHENS. Done.ReplyCancel

      • Hannah H6.2.16 - 6:30 PM

Ok – well now you know we’re all going to want to see the CLJ dog play kitchen. I see some brass pulls in the shape of a dog bone, perhaps?ReplyCancel

  • Sally6.2.16 - 12:05 PM

    Loved it! Thanks!ReplyCancel

  • cHeRyL6.2.16 - 12:50 PM

OMG are you blinds remote controlled??? Those are sooo cool. Where can I get some too for my bedroom?ReplyCancel

  • Charla6.2.16 - 1:09 PM

I can’t stream at work and I like to catch up on blogs on my breaks, so I’d love to see these vlogging posts have a couple photos and maybe a short write-up of highlights as well! Sounds like such a fun day!ReplyCancel

  • Katy6.2.16 - 1:23 PM

You guys are adorable and I love your jacket! Is it still available?ReplyCancel

    • Kim6.2.16 - 1:32 PM

I actually tried to look it up to see if it was, but I bought it a few years ago, so sadly, no. If it helps, it was from Zara! There are some similar ones currently, but they all seem to be a bit longer in length.ReplyCancel

  • julie6.2.16 - 2:05 PM

Love, love, love seeing the flea and the road trip. So may great Sundays are spent that way. Agree on the best part being the New Glarus (especially Totally Naked version). Well worth the trip and watching your video until the end ;)

    thanks for sharing!ReplyCancel

    • Kim6.2.16 - 2:19 PM

Dang, we will have to try that! My other fave is their coffee stout. Good grief, is that delicious.ReplyCancel

  • Trilby6.2.16 - 2:05 PM

LOVE it! I’ve never been able to sit through an entire vlog before – kudos to you guys for keeping it fun (it was a mini movie!) & interesting (super fun subject that hasn’t been done before)!!!ReplyCancel

    • Kim6.2.16 - 2:18 PM

Hooray! Here’s hoping we can continue to keep them interesting, ha!ReplyCancel

  • Ariella6.2.16 - 2:38 PM

I was there myself, but didn’t see you guys (no surprise). I came down from Madison and didn’t really end up buying anything. It’s a great flea market, though, and I’ll go back in the fall. It was cold!ReplyCancel

  • Emily6.2.16 - 3:00 PM

Oh my! You two are super cute. Love the video. Fun to watch thanks!ReplyCancel

  • Kari6.2.16 - 3:41 PM

This was great! My husband and I don’t have any flea market buddies (we go often, but always alone), so I’ll file you guys away as our pretend virtual flea market companions.ReplyCancel

  • Lynne6.2.16 - 4:08 PM

Absolutely hands down my most favorite post ever! I love hearing your voice and I loved seeing that flea market!! How could you leave that amazing swivel chair??? It would be perfect in my house! Love the vlog! Keep it up! Btw- I read them all but I’m a lurker and usually don’t comment- although now with blog app I can ❤️ Your posts so you know I like them!ReplyCancel

    • Kim6.2.16 - 4:13 PM

Lynne, don’t remind me about the swivel chair! Can we all gang up on Scott so he realizes the err of his ways!ReplyCancel

  • Kate ann6.2.16 - 4:29 PM

Great job! That was fun to watch. Any flea market, thrifting videos would be great.ReplyCancel

  • Hannah H6.2.16 - 6:27 PM

Add me to the love the vlog list! This is why I’ve appreciated Mr. Kate so much – a well produced video is such a nice break from just words and photos when you scroll through your feed. Also – very nice willpower re: that chair. Super cute! I might have been taken down by that one.

(ok, now hand the video camera over to CC and Jack!)ReplyCancel

    • Kim6.2.16 - 8:51 PM

I’m still sort of mad we didn’t get it! Not that we have a spot for it, so… it’s okay, I’ll survive. :DReplyCancel

  • Kelcey6.2.16 - 9:17 PM

Love! Really like that it was edited down too (some vlogs drag on which can be painful) and the music was perfection!ReplyCancel

    • Kim6.3.16 - 8:42 AM

Thanks for the feedback! We tried to keep it to 10 minutes, so that’s the goal in the future, too.ReplyCancel

  • Bonnie H.6.2.16 - 10:42 PM

Oh man, these videos are dangerous! I’m way too obsessed, in a totally non creepy way, I promise! ????ReplyCancel

  • Leah Prevost6.2.16 - 10:48 PM

I love it! It’s nice to see and hear your personalities. It makes you more “real” if that makes sense. You two had me smiling the whole video, I would love to see more of these!ReplyCancel

  • Nina6.3.16 - 12:39 AM

Great job. I love this new element. It definitely adds a new level of connection even though you’ve both done a fantastic job writing where I felt like I could hear your individual voices in your posts. Feel free to add oodles of Libby, CC, & Jack to all future vlog posts. I mean, you guys are awesome, but I’m a sucker for those 4 legged cuties.ReplyCancel

    • Kim6.3.16 - 8:45 AM

If it were up to me, we would just have hours of Jack and CC snuggling, Libby rolling around, and we would’ve had Miss Maddie judging us from her perch. We’re suckers for them, too!ReplyCancel

  • Catherine6.3.16 - 7:50 AM

LOVING the vlog! You guys are too cute…and I’m so jealous of that flea market trip! Great finds!ReplyCancel

  • Carrie6.3.16 - 7:53 AM

I loooooooove it!!! CanNOT wait to see more =)ReplyCancel

  • Megan6.3.16 - 12:38 PM

I love, love, love this post! The production details made it (that French song? Golden!) but it was “real” and totally reminded me of a thrifting adventure I’d have — namely, I end up with stuff totally NOT on my list. ;-)

Can’t wait to see more! Hope you were able to warm up.ReplyCancel

  • Jordan6.3.16 - 1:42 PM

A lovely video! It’s making me want to go to the next flea market in my area. Maybe I’ll find some good deals!ReplyCancel

  • Jane6.3.16 - 2:51 PM

    “Do we need another chair?”
    “NO!”

. . . this is the story of my life with my husband! I had to laugh at that. I loved that chair, too!ReplyCancel

    • Kim6.3.16 - 5:45 PM

I’ll never let him forget. That chair will go down in history. MwahahaReplyCancel

  • Cindy6.3.16 - 5:38 PM

Coming out of lurk-dom to tell you that you’re really good at making videos. My husband has video editing in his background, so I know it’s a lot of work to make videos look really good, and the videos that look really good look like they were effortless. The biggest high five from Houston, Texas! Looking forward to more videos.

(These projects are in our future, and therefore I would love to see videos on these topics: installing backsplash with an un-level countertop, and installing cabinets with no space between the cabinets and the ceiling)ReplyCancel

    • Kim6.3.16 - 5:46 PM

Thanks, Cindy! We did all of the filming, but our friend Hannah took care of the editing. She is a WIZARD, I tell you! :DReplyCancel

  • Emily6.3.16 - 6:06 PM

Reading blogs has become a bit of a chore for me now. I do it out of habit. I don’t say that to be negative, just didn’t realise until I was watching the video and noticed how much I was enjoying it. We live in a society where we want everything quickly. Just look at how popular snap chat is. You’ve appealed to that market and I’m sure it’s going to be a great success. Will be subscribing for sure as it was very entertaining.ReplyCancel

  • Kate Bu6.3.16 - 6:56 PM

Great vlog! I’m not usually much for watching video rather than looking at photos, but you guys really had some interesting tips/suggestions for how you go about flea marketing, and it was fun to see the cool stuff you found.ReplyCancel

  • Anna, Sydney6.4.16 - 3:50 AM

I normally never watch videos because it’s too noisy around me all the time (loud family) and I just don’t have the time. But I love you guys so much I at least had to give you a fair shot. And I loved it! The length was great, I wouldn’t even have considered trying if it had been 20 minutes unfortunately.

Loved being taken along on a thrift trip, and hated you a little for taking me on a thrift trip… :)

Loved seeing you and hearing you guys. I would definitely watch more videos from you.ReplyCancel

  • Barb6.4.16 - 12:14 PM

Finally got around to watching your vlog. Love it! Looks like it was a lot of work to polish up but I would love to watch more!ReplyCancel

  • Tanja6.5.16 - 12:26 AM

I love this format. I felt like I was going to the flea market too! I worked at a flea market when I was a kid. I picked up the garbage at the end of the day, I got paid $10/hr, which was a LOT of money 30 years ago.ReplyCancel

  • Sarah6.5.16 - 8:04 PM

I LOVE the vlog!! How on earth did you leave that beautiful chair behind? So amazing!ReplyCancel

    • Kim6.6.16 - 9:20 AM

That chair!! It will haunt me forever. I promise you.ReplyCancel

  • Josh @ The Kentucky Gent6.6.16 - 1:10 PM

You guys are too cute on camera! And it’s NEVER too early to eat anything fried, or at least IMO.ReplyCancel

  • Tara C6.7.16 - 8:34 PM

That was so fun, thanks for making a video!! I’d love to see videos of you refinishing a piece of furniture, debating paint colors and sharing what goes into that process, debating other design elements and seeing your process for finding a compromise that could satisfy both parties. It’s often most difficult to know what should go into the process of consideration so you don’t end up making an impulsive choice that might look wrong later and getting insight into how you make design choices would be so great.

I’d also love to see a video where you take us through your favorite room in your house and share why it’s your favorite and what design elements you love or might change of you had the chance and the money.

    Thank you! Love your blog.ReplyCancel

    • Kim6.8.16 - 9:51 AM

These are all great suggestions! Thank you so much. I’ve added them to our list.ReplyCancel

  • Sondra6.9.16 - 5:11 PM

I love that you are doing vlogs now. Videos are such a fun way to see your faces, hear your voices and get to know you even more! I’m a big fan of videos and general and am excited to see where you go with this. Love!ReplyCancel

  • Heather6.10.16 - 2:56 PM

I’m WAY behind and just watched this adorable video. It made me smile so much. It’s so you guys! ALSO we have that GLOBE!!! We’re globe twins now :DReplyCancel
