Vlog: Behind the Scenes at Tree House

If you’re unable to view the video above, you can watch it on YouTube right here.

Our hope is to always encourage you to tackle your own DIYs, put some elbow grease into the dusty areas and polish up your homes so that you absolutely love where you live. (After all, you continue to do the same for us.) But. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to actually live inside your renovation? Luckily, we can close the door behind us after a few days in the trenches, but it’s a question we’re asked frequently – how do you do it?! – and today, we’re taking you behind the scenes of our Tree House renovation. We’re sharing where we stash our so-called secrets and why safe zones matter, and we’re optimistic that every day will get just a wee bit better (because it has to!).

We were challenged to share this sneak peek as a part of the No Makeup Home Tour hosted by Kyla at House of Hipsters, alongside several other friends that are also sharing their everyday, no makeup tours! A huge thank you to her for asking us to keep it real, and you can click on any blog below to get a glimpse through their windows, too – you should probably refill your coffee for these:

So fun! Loved this tour! Thanks for sharing it!

One question. You said you removed the closet in the guest room to expand the bathroom. That’ll be the area next to the toilet that’s currently still drywalled in, right?

SO excited to see what you do with the dining space. I live in a small home and these clever space-saving ideas are fantastic!ReplyCancel

    • Kim5.23.18 - 9:34 AM

Yup, exactly right! That drywalled box in the bathroom is basically filled with… nothing. We decided to leave it alone until we were ready to renovate the bathroom. We explain a little more about that (and you can see where the old closet used to be) in this vlog: https://yellowbrickhome.com/vlog-tree-house-home-tour/

We have SO many plans for the dining space, but we have to really plan for it. It’s going to be a game of inches, but that’s our favorite kind of challenge! Our hope is that we can start figuring it out in the fall, maybe? winter? we want to put pen to paper by the end of this year, definitely, haha!ReplyCancel

I absolutely loved this video! So fun to see the ‘no makeup tour’ in video form. I’m also super impressed with your tree house progress- that place is looking stunning and is filled with character. I want to come stay!! Ha! Maybe Emmett and I could lend a hand? lol! I’m also with you on the bathroom… I’m an all-or-nothing gal- I won’t even try to temporarily make a room better if we’re renovating. No time for that! Great job guys :) xoReplyCancel

    • Kim5.23.18 - 10:42 AM

Well, then, it sounds like we are exactly the same. Why bother painting something when you can just tear it all down? Ha! That gets us in trouble sometimes though.

Yes, please, come! Stay! Help! Tree House needs to meet new visitors. :DReplyCancel

      • Sarah Gibson5.23.18 - 2:49 PM

Ha! Exactly. Careful what you wish for, we might just show up with tools and help you tear that bathroom down. haha!ReplyCancel

  • Kyla @HouseOfHipsters5.23.18 - 10:46 AM

Just a step stool in the sink area and everything on the carpet is a safe zone…hahahaha…I love it! And your finished guest bedroom and truly beautiful.ReplyCancel

    • Kim5.23.18 - 11:57 AM

Don’t you keep a step stool under your where-the-sink-should-be? Ha!ReplyCancel

  • Zoe E Pedziwiatr5.23.18 - 11:10 AM

Came for the treehouse, stayed for that super cute baby….HOLY COW! More Lucy!ReplyCancel

  • Ashley - The Gold HIve5.23.18 - 11:50 AM

You two are making SO much progress! I love the video (and the tunes) but I’m also in love with that thumbnail of Lucy eyeing those donuts. I think she and I will be really good pastry-loving friends.ReplyCancel

    • Kim5.23.18 - 11:58 AM

She gets her love of pastries from her momma.ReplyCancel

  • Ashley- At Home with Ashley5.23.18 - 11:54 AM

Thanks for the tour! I kind of love how petite the Tree House is- perfect for a vacation home! It’s looking so good especially for how long you’ve had it. I can’t wait for the bathroom reno!ReplyCancel

    • Kim5.23.18 - 11:58 AM

It’s petite size is def one of our favorite parts about it. :) And we can’t wait either!ReplyCancel

  • Erica Reitman5.23.18 - 12:14 PM

Loved this fun tour! Can’t wait to keep up as your reno continues!ReplyCancel

  • Staci5.23.18 - 12:19 PM

I popped over to youtube to watch it, and I’m so excited about how it’s coming along! But I wanted to let you know that for some reason the video didn’t populate into the body of this post for me.ReplyCancel

    • Kim5.23.18 - 12:56 PM

Ooh, that’s so crazy, thank you for letting me know! Did anyone else have this issue?

Staci, do you have an ad blocker that might be preventing you from seeing the video?ReplyCancel

      • Allison5.23.18 - 1:34 PM

Had the same issue. I thought I was crazy – no idea what video y’all were talking about! I disabled the adblocker and it popped right up.ReplyCancel

        • Kim5.23.18 - 1:45 PM

A-ha! Thanks for cracking that. I’ve added a direct link to the YouTube video in the first sentence, in case anyone else encounters the issue.ReplyCancel

  • Emily5.23.18 - 8:18 PM

We have that same pack and play, it’s the best! We got it it with the bassinet, and used that as our main bed for the first 3 or 4 months. We did notice that our girl wasn’t sleeping as well in it the last few months, and then we added a blanket under the sheet and she’s back to sleeping like a pro. Oh, and the sunshade is AMAZING when babe needs to nap and there aren’t dark curtains while traveling. :)ReplyCancel

    • Kim5.24.18 - 9:33 AM

That’s so good to know! I was wondering if the sun shade was worth it. Thank you so much for the tip. We also love our Guava!ReplyCancel

  • Steph6.3.18 - 8:27 PM

I just ordered the same dog food container as you after seeing it on your video as I know you guys always do thorough research and get the best stuff :) hope you are still happy with it!ReplyCancel

    • Kim6.4.18 - 8:41 AM

Yup! We have the same one at home and have loved it for years, so we got the exact same thing for Tree House. :D It keeps a whole bag of dog food fresh, isn’t terribly ugly, and we like that it can be set up to be taller or lower, depending on your specific needs (and it’s stackable if you need more than one!).ReplyCancel
