The Week’s End

This weekend saw a whirlwind trip back to the old stomping grounds of Cincinnati to celebrate the 60th birthdays of my dear ol’ mom and dad. Happy (early and belated, respectively) birthdays to Ann and Dave! The celebration on Saturday night was held at the home of our close family friends where we noshed on home-made lasagna, amazing cupcakes and handcrafted beers.

Speaking of family, you may notice a similarity or two in my ugly mug and that of my dashingly handsome maternal Grandfather, seen here in a tiny image given to parents by a distant relative. (Kim, who never met my gramps, couldn’t get over our likeness.)

We also found time for our favorite Skyline Chili (of course), visits with more family and friends than we thought possible in one weekend, and a great stop by the City Flea. In addition to the flea, Cincinnati’s Over-The-Rhine neighborhood is also home of Washington Park and Taste of Belgium, where we had delicious chicken and waffles for brunch on Sunday.

The journey home yesterday began with an impromptu trip through our old campus haunts and swings by the college digs on the street where we met. (Awww.)

We’re sufficiently worn out – in the best possible way. How was your weekend?

I beg to differ with the “cincinnati’sjustOK” bumper sticker. For a city its size it has much to offer to a wide variety of residents and visitors.ReplyCancel

Aw, I guess I would say “Cincinnati’sNotTOOShabby” but couldn’t go as far as “Cincinnati’sFlippinAwesome” or anything. It depends on how many other places you’ve been.

You cruised Chickasaw? Is our piece of crap old building still there?

    I really need some chili.ReplyCancel

Hey Kalli, I think you’re right. We love going back home to Cincinnati, and we think of it as a little respite from the hectic city. It’s certainly come a long way since we’ve graduated!

We did go to Chickasaw, and at one point I asked Scott, “was our neighborhood always this run down?” He said we were just seeing our old ‘hood through beer goggles back in the day (this is probably true). Ha! Our old building is still there, as if that porch with so many fun memories.

    Love you!ReplyCancel
