The (Thanksgiving) Weekender: My Favorite Part of the Day, a Cheery Holiday Playlist, and the Cutest Narwhal (He’s Not What You Think)

faux fur throw | ‘work hard’ print | rug | sectional | kids’ craft table

My Favorite Part of the Day Was…

At dinnertime, after we settle Lucy into her chair, after we cheers! and after that first sip, we takes turns recalling our favorite part of the day. We ask Lucy, Was it your oatmeal breakfast? Was it jumping jacks on the playground? (To which she replies yes! to everything.) Next, Scott and I go. Maybe it was our morning coffee sprinkled with cinnamon or the contract we just signed or the project we completed. Maybe it’s the satisfaction of catching up on laundry or the funny thing Lucy said or the rainy weather that allowed us a guilt-free day of getting. sh*t. done.

It’s my favorite gratitude ritual. We started it when Lucy was just a baby goose (a gosling?), a way to be mindful of our daily privileges. We get to work hard, we get to sip on yummy coffee, we get to do laundry! So today – and every day, when it comes down to it – my favorite part is:

… waking up to a giggly Goose, working alongside Scott (and Jack and CC), giving and receiving within this community of home lovers, and allowing ourselves the grace to take a step back. It’s feeling confident in the right choice (for us) and staying in our lane – the very best place to be.

Other Things This Week

How big is your ideal home size? Truth: We almost shied away from putting in an offer on our Chicago home, because we thought it was way too big, coming in at 1,800 sq. ft. It’s all relative, of course, but we’re always a little surprised when someone says, I love what you’ve done with a small home!

Who else is counting down the minutes to Kacey’s Christmas special? Guys, her grandma is making a cameo. Who is this goddess, and why do I love her so much?!

A solid reminder this week (and every week).

I can’t get over how cute this Etsy shop is.

Miniatures you have to see to believe. Wow.

Family photography as an art form. I’m so inspired!

Narwhal the magical unicorn puppy has a tail on his face, and I’m literally dead from the cuteness. (Sadly, no, it doesn’t wag.)

Scott put together a Very Tree House Holiday playlist, and it makes my Christmas-loving heart sing. He even perfected the order, so start on the first song and allow it play straight through. I’m going to be listening to this on repeat all season long.

If you’re up for it (is anyone really up for this?), come back on Friday for a massive Black Friday Master List of sales, and Saturday we’ll be hosting a Small Business Saturday Link-Up! Until then, we’re wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving and a holiday that’s everything you’ve hoped for.

    Hey YBH,
    Happy Thanksgiving!
Did Marx the puppy from your Flash Sale find his forever home?  That guy stole my heart just from photos.  I live in CA and, as a single person with a full time office job, I don’t feel like I could give a dog the proper time and attention.  But I still dreamt about driving all the way to Chicago for him!  It would make me happy to know he found a loving home.ReplyCancel

This is so sweet! Marx found a home pretty quickly afterwards. Our friend who hosted the sale applied for him, but he was already taken! He was an AMAZING little dude and so handsome.ReplyCancel
