The Weekender: A Chameleon, Girl In the Mirror, a Faux Garland Update + Our Favorite (Ever!) Candles

A Chamelon and Her Bug

Lucy’s chameleon costume is hardly new (see: exhibit A + B), but my goodness, she loves that thing! So much so, that she wears it at least once a week – twice, if she’s making deals. (She’s a fantastic negotiator.) She wore this costume last year during our neighborhood’s annual Halloween parade – which was understandably canceled this time around – and it somehow still fits.

So rather than whip up a new costume, we opted instead to give our little chameleon a companion in the form of a (Catfish-shaped) bug! An antenna headband was all we needed for the cutest duo on the block, although you’ll have to look closely since the headband blends into our home. Oops.

What Else?

To my fellow Photo Geeks, I finally added an L-bracket – a super thin, nondescript piece of metal – to my camera, and now I can never go back. It changed the way I shoot! This is why.

I was recently introduced to Maewoven, and I instantly fell down the rabbit hole. A few pillows made it to my cart, and subsequently, my front door. Eek!

Imagine a young girl looking in the mirror, searching for role models in the world to give her hope that one day, she too, can make a difference.

— Girl In the Mirror

Have you decorated for fall this year? I loved our porch last fall (below), but this year, Lucy picked out a few pumpkins, I staggered them on our porch steps, and we called it ‘done.’

I shared our Nora Project Play Pack on Stories a few weeks ago, but I want to take a moment to talk about it again here. The Nora Project aims to normalize differences, demystify disability and promote meaningful connections between peers. They created the Play Pack in conjunction with Discovery Toys to celebrate differences and promote emotional literacy – and I guarantee it would make a wonderful holiday gift! Use promo code PLAY for 25% off through tomorrow!

Boots and jackets are my kryptonite, and I just added one of each to my wardrobe: These chunky Chelsea boots, and this Dream Coat in copper. So. Good.

Many of you noticed the chandelier we recently added to the Two Flat’s mauve dining room (below)! We couldn’t be happier with how much it adds to the space. It was a budget buy to begin with, but now it’s an additional 10% off!

Who’s your Bodega Santa? Scott has always been amazing at this, and now I have a nickname for it!

Let’s make a propagation station!

Remember our Faux Garland Flock-Off last year? The garland we used went out of stock ev-er-y-where shortly after I published that post, but it’s back in stock! Find it right here (and hurry)!

Weekend Sales

Have a Happy Halloween!

How do you plan to celebrate (if that’s your thing)? Scott and the dad of Lucy’s best bud will be ‘hiding’ candy in an open green space nearby, and then we’ll let the girls run around to ‘find’ the goodies. After which, we’ll watch as they get high on sugar and fun, and we’ll cross our fingers that they’ll both sleep that evening. Have a happy one, friends!

Ooooo… always love your candle recommendations! Putting a plug in for the new Casaluna candles at Target. I bought Serenity (peppermint, sage, and basil), but would have purchased all 4 scents if it were in my budget. I love the scent, the large size (4 wick), and that it is made with coconut/soy wax.ReplyCancel

I absolutely love the sweet idea of a bodega santa.  As Covid drags on it is the little things that can be big pick me ups.  We have recently started reading out loud to eachother from favorite books after dinner.  We turn on the electric fireplace and go someplace “far away” in our bookReplyCancel

I’ve been kind of obsessed lately with the idea of installing a fireplace somewhere in our Chicago home! Now if I could only get Kim on board…ReplyCancel

Such an odd question to go along with this post, but I shall ask anyway – is your back door a sliding door, and if it is, what’s the brand?  Looking for something similar for our house that has too many french doors that are such a pain to use!  Thanks :)ReplyCancel

    • Scott11.4.20 - 12:00 PM

Hi Heidi! Not an odd question at all. It’s the Designer Series 6′ sliding door from Pella. It looks like they may have changed the name of the series, but there are still very similar options available. Here’s a link to the post with more info. If we had to do it over again, we’d have ordered it with a black interior from the factory. Hope this helps!ReplyCancel

  • Katie11.6.20 - 3:24 PM

i LOVE that you are a fan of Sydney Hale Co. candles. They are based in Richmond, VA (where I’ve lived all my life) and not only do the candles smell ahhhh-mazing, but they also support animal shelters. Win win!ReplyCancel
