Won’t You Take Our Reader Survey?

Happy Friday, friends! Won’t you please take our Yellow Brick Home reader survey? The survey will allow us to get to know you better, and in turn, we can continue to strengthen this amazing community and deliver the best content possible. All answers are 100% anonymous, and we kept it short and sweet so that it should take no more than 5-10 minutes of your time. We’re looking forward to hearing from you! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to provide your feedback.

A Two Flat Update

We received the very best news this week – demolition can commence! If you’re wondering why we haven’t talked about the Two Flat in a while, it’s because there has been long stretches of waiting. First, we finalized the plans (which we’ll talk more about in a later post!) and then did our best to patiently wait for the construction drawings. Once we had those in hand, we needed to wait on approval from our lender. With their approval, our GC requested the permits, which meant we had plenty of time to – you guessed – wait.

But! The waiting game is over because demolition kicks off right now! Like, right now. We had our final meeting with the demo team yesterday, and we triple confirmed what can stay (that dining room hutch!) and what can go (the rotting pantry addition). We’re crossing all our fingers for hardwood floors beneath the carpet and vinyl tile, and we’ll be holding our breath as the first sledgehammer slams into the wallpaper in my favorite room. It’s happening, it’s happening!

A question for you: We’ve already started filming the first vlog as another outlet to share the renovation process. We thought it would be fun to share monthly video ‘diaries’ of the process. Is this something you’d be interested in seeing, to accompany our blog updates?

What Else?

Scott was so sick of hearing me rave about my Allbirds, that he broke down and ordered a pair for himself! He chose the Tree Runners in Marine Blue (I have the same in white), and he hasn’t stopped talking about how comfortable they are. I know, Scott. I know.

Someway, somehow, Lucy has started potty training. It’s like I looked up and she was a toddler, and – ugh, my heart. She is obsessed with sitting on the toilet, so we picked up two of these training seats (one for each bathroom). They are gooood, and when closed, they legit look like our Kohler seats! Lucy can easily put her own seat down, they’re soft close, and you’d never know we have a training seat.

Putty, putty everywhere, and I am here for it!

This Perfect White collection is filling up my shopping cart so fast.

Every time we watch Queer Eye, Scott and I say, Poor Bobby! He has such a massive job, and yet the smallest amount of air time, don’t you think? Anyway, I came across this article, and I have to say… I disagree with his advice on #3 (quality over quantity in that case, I think), but you know I was nodding my head to #6.

We added yet another of these baby gates to the stairs on our front porch, and it blends in so well, sometimes I forget it’s there. (See our whole round up of attractive safety gates here!)

We were interviewed by ProPhoto earlier this week, and you can see it here, if you’d like!

Good luck with demo! I hope you find the wood floors you’re hoping for. And yes! I wish they showed more of Bobby’s work on Queer Eye. Sigh!ReplyCancel

Don’t get me wrong, I could stare into Karamo’s eyes all day long… but poor Bobby!ReplyCancel

You guys make BEAUTIFUL videos, but I have to be honest that video is just not an easy way for me to consume content. If it’s longer than 3 minutes, I will probably never get around to watching it, not because I don’t want to but because my life doesn’t really work that way, ha! Insta stories, where things are in tiny chunks, are an exception because I can watch a couple, and then watch a couple more a few hours later. Just wanted to give an opinion from the other side! ReplyCancel

We get it! That’s why we’d definitely do them in addition to our regular blog posts of the renovation. :)ReplyCancel

I watch the videos occasionally – but I prefer reading and being able to scroll up and down and look at things numerous times. ReplyCancel

    Yes, monthly videos! ????????ReplyCancel

  • Sam8.10.19 - 5:41 AM

Love a vlog of the renovation! I’ve found with my two youngest littles still at home, watching a video while doing things is so much easier than trying to sit and read a blog post. Excited to watch the process! XReplyCancel

  • Amanda8.10.19 - 7:06 AM

Yes! Do the videos, I’d definitely watch them. I really enjoy Chris Loves Julia’s monthly recaps and I’m sure I’d enjoy yours just the same.

I did the survey (Yay!). Afterwards I thought of something to add… Is it possible to remove the videos that are in the midst of your blog content on the mobile website? I love reading your blog on my way to work, but those videos kill my data to load the content and as I’m scrolling through. TIA!
I am loving the putty everywhere as well. I.am.here.for.it. ReplyCancel

Yes to the monthly diaries. I follow a few people who are renovating and monthly updates is the best way. JennyReplyCancel

It’s at the bottom of the survey – OR you can enter your email at the bottom of our blog!ReplyCancel

I *used* to be a NO video person, because I consumed the majority of my blog content while I was working a desk job (don’t tell my boss). Now I work from home so it’s a whole different ball game. ALSO, I subscribed to YBH on Youtube on my Apple TV (that is a sentence I would have never written 6mos ago) …. all that to say, YES to monthly videos!! ReplyCancel

  • Nicole8.12.19 - 2:22 AM

YES. YES. YES. to monthly vlogs. YES PLEASE. ReplyCancel

  • Niki8.13.19 - 11:20 AM

Yes to monthly video diaries of the process, I love watching that type of video on YT.ReplyCancel

  • Jennifer8.13.19 - 10:30 PM

I used to have a pair of Allbirds that I loved (back when they only made one option, the wool sneaker) but it became obvious fast that the soles didn’t have enough grip.  Anytime I wore them when there was any wet on the ground I would slip and slide across any brick paving or granite curbs, or rocks on the hiking trail and if there was ice…it was all over.  How do you find the grip on yours?  They were so comfortable I’d love to go back to them, but not if I can only wear them when it’s sunny and no one is watering.  ReplyCancel

    • Scott8.14.19 - 8:53 AM

Hi Jennifer! Kim and I both have Allbirds and absolutely love them for warm weather! (I got mine a few weeks ago and Kim got hers in the spring) We’ve both found the grip to be sufficient as long as we’ve had them, but in all fairness, we haven’t worn them in the snowy or icy months. Here in Chicago, we both usually switch to boots in the fall for cooler, wetter weather, so it might be a moot point for us? They sure are comfy though!ReplyCancel
