As if on autopilot, a typical day might look like this: wake up, brush teeth, feed pets, work on the garden apartment. (And try to remember to eat!) Repeat. We won’t lie; it’s been an intense amount of DIY, hard work, and a test of our patience, but during the toughest times, we look at each other and say, this is temporary. Has it become a grind at times? Absolutely. But do we have fun, you know, sometimes? Yup, and I’m pretty proud of how we’ve been handling our intense schedule. We sing along to music while we work, we schedule down the work days into (somewhat) realistic chunks, and we sneak in quick walks with the pups and fuel ourselves on frozen yogurt when we can.
Our goal was to complete the entire renovation in three months, and I can finally say, I think we might make it! The kitchen has turned a huge corner, we stuck a fork in the bathroom (more on that one soon!) and the trim and baseboards have been installed and repaired. But today? We can’t wait to share a little glimpse into the garden’s teeny, tiny laundry room, and we’re sharing the entire rundown with Homes.com!
At just under 4′ x 6′, it’s barely bigger than a closet, and although the bitsy room has a window, there was no way to highlight that little bonus due to the placement of the water hook-ups for the washer and dryer. We were looking to add function and storage, and yeah, we wanted it to look cute, too. We stuck to a budget, purchasing the stacked unit during a Memorial Day sale and DIY-ing the beadboard and fauxdenza. We needed the help of an electrician to add a junction box for the sweetest little sconce, and for fun, I fluffed the room with items from our own home.
The room breakdown, our thought process behind every little (and not-so-little) decision and a lot more photos can be found on Homes.com today!
