The Bedroom Blahs?

Some of you may know how much I love our orange bedroom. Truly, I do. Or, should I say did? Last week, call it a “wild hair” or what you will, but while the hubs was out of town, I decided to paint the bedroom. I couldn’t sleep, I had just enjoyed a relaxing day, and out of nowhere, I felt strongly compelled to whip out our ol’ rollers. So for memory’s sake, here’s how you may know the bedroom:

We had almost a full gallon left of that sweet, green stripe behind the headboard, Behr’s Relaxing Green. Before I could think twice, I was pouring that paint in tray liners and rolling the orange away.

I know, what a tease. The next morning, I awoke to a half painted room, half the furniture smooshed in the hallway, and feelings of guilt. Did I make a mistake? Scott would be home that afternoon, and while we had talked about possibly giving our bedroom a new color, I still wasn’t sure how he would react. I had run out of paint the night before, and lucky for me, the super sweet hubs not only didn’t seem to mind, but he even took me to Home Depot to snag another gallon of that peaceful color. I came home from work the following Monday to find him finishing up what I started! Whew, talk about marrying the man of my dreams. K + S 4-eva:

So as we say goodbye to the orange walls I so eagerly convinced the hubs we needed 3 years ago (Behr’s Pumpkin Patch), we now find ourselves waking up to a barely-there green. It feels so serene, so calm, and to be honest, a little boring. Uh-oh.

I hadn’t realized how big of a role my pumpkin walls had played in that room. We even moved our FLOR rug into the office (where it seemed to fit right in from day 1), took down those greeny-gold blackout curtains (remember our blinds we recently installed to block out the morning light?), and we’re using our spunkier damask bedspread for the time being. But even Scott agreed we now need to spice it up a bit more. Oh, be still my heart! New curtains, a playful rug, and maybe a punchy throw or two will make it’s debut.

Stay tuned as we figure out what to do. Oh, and, am I totally crazy by the way? Are you sad to see the orange go? Or maybe my sneak peek wasn’t enough to really let you see the damage caused. Ah, well, there’s no going back. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love a change. So here’s to looking forward. Oh, boy.

I really like the orange, but I totally understand the desire for change. I haven’t finished my bedroom yet and I’m already debating what the next paint color will be!ReplyCancel

I can’t decide! I love your orange (especially since so many people are drawn to more serene colors, which can so easily verge on boring). But I have confidence that you guys will come up with a way to inject a bunch more color in here. Can’t wait, ya tease!ReplyCancel

  • I go through those types of feelings all the time! I love that you just whipped out the paint brushes and went for it!ReplyCancel

No, you aren’t crazy. Change is good, but there’s nothing wrong slightly regretting your decision! It’s nice having a calming color in your bedroom, especially when you are so busy. I tried orange in our bathroom and regretted it instantly (it wasn’t as lovely a color as yours, but more like a prisoner’s uniform orange). I’m terrified of orange now…ReplyCancel

Phew, your encouraging words are making me feel less like I made a mistake! Boy, I can’t wait to start putting together some fun accessories in there to really pop!

Amie, we went through the orange paint chips for almost an hour before finally settling on Pumpkin Patch. Seemed that most oranges are either “prisoner’s uniform,” safety cone bright, or on the verge of red. We found our final choice to be a true orange while not being too bright or too muddy. Oh, the choices!ReplyCancel

You kill me! I totally understand how you have to just go for it once you get the idea, though :) It looks great as usual – can’t wait for the final reveal.ReplyCancel

Micah, my thoughts exactly. Bringing orange in a throw or some sheets will totally give me that fix I’m craving.ReplyCancel

I so totally get where you’re coming from.

Last year I painted my bedroom a warm pumpkiny color…and threw myself wholeheartedly into the rich color scheme. By the time I moved out a year later I was so thrilled that my new home had pale greenish blue walls. I was just over the intense color.

That’s why paint is great…because it can always be changed. :)ReplyCancel

Love the new color. Loved the old color. It’s win-win when you have as good of taste as you and Scott do!ReplyCancel

I think the serene green was stunning with the photos framing your TV. Your blog is adorable, and I am so jealous of that vendor who had nothing but oops paint! I love me some oops paint. (I found your blog through Jane at Borrowed Abode by the way…)ReplyCancel

I love how you handled that tv!ReplyCancel

Thank you, Mrs. Limestone! We knew we wanted to flank it with wedding photos (as to not call too much attention to it), but it was a happy accident that it was exactly the same size as the photo frames. Phew!ReplyCancel
