Poodles + Pitties + Doxies!

You guys! First, thank you a thousand times for the great conversation and feedback on last week’s celebratory post. You all made our hearts so happy, and we feel so lucky that you continue to stop by as we slowly (very, very slowly) chug along on our home’s renovation journey. Even now, as we’ve put our home on semi-hold this summer – well the garage is coming along, updates soon! – to help out with the One Tail at a Time Adoption Center, you’ve been so supportive. You make us feel all mushy, mush.

But! Speaking of which, let’s talk about all the puppies. To this point, there has been an incredible amount of work behind the scenes at the OTAT House, but most of it has been buying and sourcing, emailing and negotiating, and – the fun part! – receiving packages on the daily from the many sponsors that are pitching in! The extra hard work (the doing) will start snowballing soon, but for now, we wanted to share the wallpaper that’ll greet you when you first walk in the door.

We chose Best In Show – just look! – kindly donated from Osborne & Little. Having wallpapered our old hallway and, most recently, the guest room, Scott and I volunteered to dive right in and hang it ourselves. No big deal, right?

We requested three rolls, which after all my number crunching should’ve given us more than enough for the two walls that make up the entryway, but a few mistakes right off the bat combined with a hot day, uneven drywall and glue that would not stay wet had us a bit behind schedule and short on paper. We followed our own practice for installation, but after a full day’s work, we only had one wall complete.

Feeling frustrated, we debated pushing forward with Wall Two, but not only was time not on our side (nor did we have enough paper, blerg), we also had a funky wall to contend with – a support beam, a lower wall, an uneven ceiling and a window. (On a side note, you can see below that there are two colors of paint on the wall; on the left is the new color, Ben Moore’s Classic Gray, and on the right is what still needed to be papered.)

We weighed the pros and cons of trying to come back another day to knock it out, but in the end, we chose to just ask for help. Osborne & Little didn’t make me feel silly for needing yet another roll (love them), and local company Midwest Paperhangers not only volunteered their time to pitch in, but they completed the job – and flawlessly! – in about two hours.

It’s no surprise that we love, love, love it! And hey, do you just freak out that there are little Pitties on the paper? Well played, Osborne & Little; well played.

This area, in addition to being super cute(!), will double as the area for One Tail’s merchandise, so we’re not even close to calling the entryway done. We’re waiting on a few more items to arrive before we can start pulling things together, but pretty soon, it’s about to get real real.

In other news, are you following along with Kale Chips’ weight loss journey? So much love for Kale Chips, all the adoptable dogs (oh, hi, Stanley Pup!), and, obviously, this rescue.

PS! Our home studio got a sweet little upgrade, and black fringe just might be involved. We’re sharing the story over on the Bali Blinds blog this week! Check it out, friends.

I saw this super awesome wallpaper in a model home a few years ago and have been coveting it! I’ve planned for it to go in our powder room and cannot wait to get it up. Just add another notch in the crazy dog lady tally.ReplyCancel

Wait, is it not normal to want this paper in every room of the house?! Ha. ;)ReplyCancel

Does OTAT need any volunteers when it comes to setting up/installing? I’m a rescue dog owning neighbor who is excited to see this unfold and would love to pitch in if they need any extra hands!ReplyCancel

Love it! I haven’t been a fan of wallpaper due to the previous homeowner putting it EVERYWHERE but this I love! What a fun design for an adoption center. Good luck getting everything finished. It’s so nice that people are volunteering their time and product to help you get it done!ReplyCancel

It really is incredibly heartwarming. We haven’t had a sponsor say “no” yet – knock on wood! Everyone wants to help the adoptable puppies!ReplyCancel

Wow that looks amazing! What a perfect way to set the mood right when people walk in. I’m terrible about asking for help too, I hate bothering people!ReplyCancel

I am the exact same way. I don’t want to burden anyone, but it’s for such a good cause, so I just had to get past it!ReplyCancel

Soo YES! Dog wallpaper I’m in. My only issue is it’s lacking Pomeranians. Then again I’m biased. Looks like the space is coming together.
