Pink Poppies

Fabric shopping is hard. There were times where I swear I saw the same print in ten different colors on twenty separate sites, only to find out they were in no way the same, they went by thirty different names (no, the math does not check out), and some were so much dinero, I’d have to sell an arm. Holy ships, we’re only trying to cover an ottoman here.

So where does a novice like me start? First, I ask you. (You guys are awesome, btw.) Second, I pin. I pin for hours and days until my heart’s content. And then I ask Scott for advice. I tell him why his choice is not right and why mine is better (Amy Butler’s Midwest Fresh Poppies, rose). Then I twist his arm to the point of agreement and buy from my gut. Man, I can be a jerk.

And when it comes in the mail, I maybe kinda sorta freak out. But under this bizarre and twisted yellow brick roof, Scott loves it. I, however, needed time to think about it.

Yeah, I wanted pink. (Or yellow. Or maybe grey or orange!) Well, man, I got pink in the most radioactive form. I felt a little deceived by the colors on our laptop screen versus what we got. But Scott is on board (what a guy!), and I swoon for color, and yes, if I squint my eyes, I can see this working out. Sure, we’ll be introducing a whole new color, but, eh, what the hell. So Miss Amy Butler, I choose you and your poppies.

Bright but beautiful! On the subject of fabric, the linen curtains in my living room have grown on me and kelly’s input helped ease my uncertainty. :)ReplyCancel

Thanks, Jill! Your vote of confidence means a lot to me. Wish you were closer so I could give in-person input on your living room curtains, too!ReplyCancel

pretty sure that if you lived closer, life would be too good to be true. haha.ReplyCancel

I like the pink, and the fact that the pattern is sort of subtracted from a background of pink. It could work with nicely with your minty (and gray?) walls.

Have you sewn up the fabric yet? If it’s not attached to the ottoman yet the brightness should dull down a little if you wash it a bunch of times.ReplyCancel

oh, and I need to get my butt on Pinterest already. Do you have to be invited or something?ReplyCancel

Hey, Kalli! I thought about washing it a bunch, too. Or even bleaching it. Hmm… You know I love a good dose of color, so I just can’t decide!

Also, just sent you a Pinterest invite. Get on it! It’ll change your life, for real.ReplyCancel

Thanks! I’ll play with it today.

The only thing with bleach is it could end up changing the color from pink to like orange or do something a little more unpredictable (like make it streaky and tie-dye looking) than just washing with detergent.ReplyCancel

    Hey Kim,
First off, I love the pattern. Secondly, is it woven or printed? As Kalli mentioned, washing it in detergent ought to help. There are a few mild abrasives that you can attempt to distress the fabric with as well. You could experiment with “exfoliating” by hand-washing with baking soda and sand. Also, you could try using a Magic Eraser on it (Target makes excellent generic Magic Erasers for significantly less than Mr. Clean brand, by the way).

I’ve never actually tried these things, but if the color doesn’t grow on you it might be worth a try.ReplyCancel

Magic Eraser?! That may be crazy enough to work – IF I decide to desaturate that pink. I am the queen of Target brand Erasers!

    Thank you, ladies!ReplyCancel

Don’t toy with perfection. I love the fabric!ReplyCancel

Wow- that was a bit shocking. I can see why you may have flinched a bit. It’s super cute though! Just a thought (and maybe a horrid one) can you tea stain it a tad to maybe mellow it a bit? It’s great as it too but I can see why the color may take a bit to get used to. Good luck!ReplyCancel

Jen, the flowers are already an ivory, so that does help a little.

And Elisa, we are planning on adding a nail head trim and wooden legs, so overall, it should tone down. But, MAN is that pink!ReplyCancel

Its very pink, yes… but it’s also beautiful. Would be awesome if you could add piping in the background color to temper it a bit?ReplyCancel
