Office Cupcakes

I’ve told you before that being home most days can be a funny, strange thing. I’ve been slipping from my hot-red lipstick routine a bit (I blame an abnormally warm summer for this), but I’ll never stop getting a kick out of Jack’s peanut butter eating, lip-smacking silliness.

Yes, I love being my own boss (the hardest one I’ve ever had, really), but there have been times that I really miss being around co-workers. Um, people co-workers. My boy, Jack, and his kitty sisters are great company – and I often kiss them throughout the day for “good luck” (Good luck kisses!, I say) – but when I’m being annoying, I wish they’d tell me. Or if they find my outfit especially flattering (or not), or if the tag on my tee is hanging out, I want them to say so. Or if I’ve just had a great idea, I wish they’d let me know that, too.

To remedy this, I’ve been trying to run more errands in the middle of the day. Scott has to remind me to do so – get out of the house!, he tells me. It’s good to see the sun (who knew?), and after all these years living in Chicago, I still love seeing so many people on the sidewalks, running their errands, at every hour of the day.

When my mind starts wishing for past, easier bosses (who knew I’d ever call them easy!) and co-workers I barely knew, it’s been a long week. Because even on so-called tough days (perhaps my accounting isn’t lining up, or my shipping supplies have just run out or I’ve about had it! with my writer’s block), I enjoy my work – and yes, I very much love my fuzzy companions at the studio. And when I’m feeling generous, I’ll reward them with belly rubs and spoonfuls of peanut butter. It’s my version of bringing cupcakes to the office.

Have a happy, sweet weekend!

  • Well, I can’t see the video because my company likes to block any and all streaming (and social media and anything related to wine). So maybe you can count that as another perk of your solo gig: internet freedom ;)
Also, I’m sure you have lots of us “virtual coworkers” who peek in and say “hi!”
    I hope you’re having a great day. Yay Friday!ReplyCancel

Heather, you couldn’t be more right – my virtual co-workers are awesome, and your “hellos” really, really make my every day!ReplyCancel

I love doing this to/for my little pup as well! Dog’s tongues are seriously bizarre to me! Don’t let working at home get you down… every job, every where, has a slump but you’ll get through it with new routines :)ReplyCancel

he is sooo cuuuuuuute. my fiance is the “work from home” half of our tag team, and his co-workers are a pitty and a chow chow. sometimes, i get really jealous of the fact that if he hits a block in his work, he can just get up and throw the tennis ball for the dogs for 20 minutes to loosen up the nuts & bolts! i love your idea of running errands in off-peak, midday hours. might start doing that myself in the office!ReplyCancel

Dog + PB is some of the best entertainment, ever. Dante trying to wrap himself in a blanket is something I never get tired of (and should really film one of these days!). My photog friends that do it full time feel the same way you do, and have created kind of a network so that they have someone to go to lunch with or grab coffee during the week, so they get out of the house too! :)ReplyCancel

I can completely relate!! There are days when I realize that I’ve gone 10 hours without speaking to a single human being (but have had a few intense conversations with Zoe).

    P.S. I LOVE Jack!ReplyCancel

To those bosses that nix streaming videos, limit social media, etc., I say “iPad!” Seriously, is there anything more fun than watching cutie Jack slurp peanut butter? What a fabulous way to start out the weekend! Thanks for sharing the smile, Kim.ReplyCancel
