If there’s one thing that we should have done a long, long time ago, it would have been to install curtains – or shades, blinds, anything. We’ve been a big, open book since we’ve moved in (oh, hi, neighbor! It’s just me in my jammies and my monstrous glass of wine; no big!), but with so much of our house – literally – falling down around us, it wasn’t as high on our priority list as it should have been.
With our living room painted and, consequently, the window casing painted as well, it was a no brainer for us to go with the same cellular shades that we had in our last home – these 3/8″ double cell light filtering shades in glacier from Blinds.com. After all that research we did a little more than a year ago, we knew we were making the right decision for all the same pros and cons we weighed back then: ONE) If for any reason we would need to return our shades, we could do so on their dime, TWO) the cellular shades have a top down / bottom up capability (which is especially nice on our first floor) and THREE) we’ve learned from our past year’s worth of experience with them that they insulate really, really well. (And with these sub zero temperatures? We’ll take it!)
They arrived over the weekend, and while I knocked out the nook room, Scott got to work installing our new shades. Unlike our last house, our large picture windows (upstairs and down) are framed with studs, so no anchors were necessary; all said and done, it took less than an hour to hang all six shades on two very large windows!
For now, we’ve only covered the two largest windows in our home (the living room and the studio), but over time, we’ll slowly be tackling the rest – all twenty of them; a big leap from our condo which had four. (The blinds, just like everything else – all of our outlets, baseboards and light fixtures – will happen room-by-room, slowly. Of course this is due to practical purposes such as money, but how else do you eat a whale? One bite at a time.)
Not only do we stand behind the quality, durability and super-insulating-powers of our shades from Blinds.com, but we’re over the moon that they not only wanted to help us get a jump start on our very naked windows, but they also wanted to lend a hand for one of you, too!
Together with Blinds.com, we’ll be giving away a $150 store credit to one lucky reader! Using the Rafflecopter widget below, enter as many ways as you’d like. Giveaway is eligible for US residents only and runs through Monday, February 3rd until 5pm CST, and the winner will be announced within this post. Good luck and happy entering!
