(No Longer) Blinded By the Light

We promise we’re not here to get that song stuck in your head (you know, with it’s infamous garbled “say what?” lyrics). Nope. (But here’s the video if you feel like rockin’ out). Rather, we simply wanted to share with you the newest addition in our bedroom. As you can see, Miss Maddie seems to enjoy looking through them. Oh, we’re talking about the blinds, by the way.

To literally cut our cost in half, we originally only bought blinds for the front half of our home. Two and a half years later, and with the bedroom being in the back half of the home, we finally hit up Overstock.com and purchased (on the cheap – thanks, Overstock!) a little more privacy. For now, we’ve nixed our blackout curtains, but still love the instant texture and ooh-la-la effect curtains have on a space. So with that in mind, we do plan to flank the window with something a little more easy breezy down the road. No more free neighborly peep shows from these two.

But how do you dress up your windows? Maybe we don’t all have the same problem of our neighbors within an arm’s reach from the bedroom lookout, but still. Do light and airy panels do the trick, or do you prefer the drama of thick velvet? Maybe you go naked. Hey, to each their own.

Nice soft lighting! One of our more expensive purchases was our silk curtains from West Elm. We had to purchase 4 panels instead of 2 because our sliding glass door is very wide. We love them though.ReplyCancel

Jacquelin, we currently have our eyes set on a pair of West Elm panels ourselves. I’m hoping they go on sale soon!ReplyCancel

I like those bamboo slat blinds, even though I don’t like that you can’t partially open them like regular blinds. However, I think I’m inept at hanging them. Everyone else’s have this nice looking fold at the top, and I just hung mine up on some hooks… Hmm, I’m gonna have to look into that. Yours look lovely- I hope you don’t miss the blackout curtains when 6am rolls around!ReplyCancel

Amanda, I agree with you on the bamboo blinds, but since we used wooden blinds in the front, we decided to keep it consistent in the back (just with a different color). Luckily, these new blinds block out more light than the blackout curtains ever did!ReplyCancel

We color and decorate our caves to feel comfort, and happiness as you say. Windows are to communicate with the outdoors, so less is more IMHO. I don’t have your wonderful windows in my 750 sq. ft. place, but I have drapes only in the bedroom (drawn only at night). If I let myself imagine everyone wants to look in, I cut off my time to look out.

Linked from Apartment Therapy. Love your use of color (much braver than I :)

Kate, we’re so happy you found us! We could really use a good trip to Hawaii right about now.ReplyCancel
