Mood Board Week(s): Unit 1 Pink Bathroom

Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be sharing mood boards for each of the Two Flat’s wet rooms! If you’re counting, that’s 2 bathrooms + 1 kitchen for Unit 1, and 1 bathroom + 1 kitchen for Unit 2. These plans will act as a resource as we move through each of these rooms over the course of the summer. Ready? Ready.

Room Hop

The pink bathroom in Unit 1 stole my heart from the very beginning. I’m pretty sure I audibly gasped when I saw that pink sink, the pink tub, the (broken) pink toilet! Of course, I did my best to play it cool in front of the realtors, because you know, you don’t want to give it all away. Would it be safe to say that the pink bathroom is what sold me on the Two Flat? Well, I’m not going to say it didn’t. (You know I love a vintage bathroom, after all!)

Unit 1 will eventually be a short-term rental that we are hoping to fully design and furnish. Even if we decide to pivot at the last minute and go with longer leases, we think there’s still a market for furnished homes in Chicago and those who will appreciate our scrappiness to salvage the original pink fixtures.

One of the biggest changes you’ve probably noticed from the before photos is the bathroom location. It swapped places with the closet! We salvaged the pink bathtub and sink, but the toilet had a massive hole beyond repair. You all have helped me out tremendously by pointing me towards Retro Renovation, which is how I was able to find out that our sink and tub are both Gerber’s Bahama Pink, a not-too-bubblegum shade with a soft peachy undertone.

We’re keeping things classic and sweet with traditional glossy subway tile and polished chrome fixtures. Below, the pink staples were pulled from a vintage Kohler catalog, since finding Gerber images were near impossible (that color has since been discontinued). And #15 is a placeholder for that mirror you see on the door in the before photos! We had it repaired by a local glass maker, and we’ll be using it in our design.

1. double-arm sconce | 2. chrome + porcelain hooks | 3. Imperial Bianco Barnes (cap) | 4.  Black Marquina pencil tile | 5. Imperial Bianco gloss subway 3″ x 6″ | 6.  Black Marquina polished marble skirting | 7.  Hampton Niles marble mosaic 12″ x 12″ | 8. Bomb-dive artwork | 9. capri copper shower curtain | 10. Delta Cassidy toilet paper holder | 11. Delta Cassidy shower trim kit + handle | 12. Sarasota toilet | 13. Sebou mat | 14. vintage pink sink with chrome base | 15. vintage mirror (similar)

Are you on Team Pink yet?

This Q + A covers a lot of ground (like how we knew she was The One and how we’re financing the project), and you can even watch our video series ‘Dear Two Flat’ on YouTube. I think I am most excited about the tile in this bathroom – the black pencil and base tying into the basketweave are going to be SO gorgeous! The way you’ve designed this to highlight the original fixtures is just beautiful.ReplyCancel

I have to say when I first saw the pink bathtub I thought for sure it was on its way out but now I am SO here for it. I’m so in awe of your vision on this. Cannot wait to see the final result. ReplyCancel

Fun! Will be clocking this for inspiration. We have a mint and (shudders) brown bathroom that has been quite puzzling! ReplyCancel

I’m 100% on Team Pink… but might I also be on team Black Toilet? Is that insane!?ReplyCancel

    • Kim6.18.20 - 7:15 PM

I’ve seen black toilets look goooood.ReplyCancel

  • Janet6.19.20 - 7:34 AM

I love how you are saving the pink. Pro pink all the way. Except I am weirdly glad your toilet was broken and is being replaced with white. The clean freak in me can just not get behind vintage toilets! And I think it will be so much easier to clean when white. :)ReplyCancel

Yes! Yes! Yes! I love this bathroom so much!! I don’t know how you guys do it ReplyCancel

Hi, I think the mood board is great, it is going to look amazing. Just wondering though, is this the only bathroom in this flat? Is there any storage? I know you said you’re going to make it a short term rental place but where will your tenants put all of their toiletries such as dental items, make up, hair dryer and brushes and toilet paper etc? I always look at the practical side of things and the first thing I thought was, it’s lovely but where would I put all my stuff?!  ReplyCancel

    • Kim7.5.20 - 7:23 PM

There is another bathroom downstairs (the den bathroom!), so this is more of a bonus bathroom. :)ReplyCancel

      • Nicole7.5.20 - 10:56 PM

Ah right, makes sense!  Love seeing you transform these places into something so beautiful! ReplyCancel

I love the shower head on the mood board, but there isn’t a link to that. Could you please share a link to the shower head as well? ThanksReplyCancel
