Let’s kick off a week of fine tuning the systems in our home! Keep reading to see the schedule, and let’s do this together.

What does The Year of EVOLVE mean to us? It means embracing growth – pleasant or otherwise. It means looking a problem in the face and asking ourselves how to solve it. It means: pushing ourselves creatively and choosing the choice that makes us the happiest. And in the context of today’s blog post, it means fine tuning our home within an inch of its life. I fully believe that a well tuned and curated home has the power to make my day-to-day run smoothly, and in turn, boosting my happiness.

The catch? Fine tuning a home doesn’t happen once, and then you’re done. Rather, a fine tuned home is maintained with daily habits, rituals and practice. And sometimes – in our case, a couple of times a year – a home needs a reset. To me, a home reset is assessing what’s working for you, and what’s not. Which brings me to…

Let’s Get Organized!

January is a natural time of year where many of us catch the organizational bug, and that includes me! To keep this from feeling overwhelming, I focus on one task a day (or every few days), knowing that things may get much messier before they get better. That’s okay! As Scott likes to remind me: You need to break a few eggs to make an omelette.

This year, I thought it would be fun to challenge myself to organize with you! Not only will this hold me more accountable, but my hope is that we can make strides together, with one new task a day, starting this coming Monday. Here’s how I’m breaking it down:

Organize with Me

MONDAY
bedroom closets
TUESDAY
bathrooms
WEDNESDAY
kitchen
THURSDAY
toys
FRIDAY
miscellany

Kick-Off Starts Monday

Starting Monday, I’ll Story my real-time process of cleaning out the bedroom closets and share with you the things I do to make it count. It may not always be easy, but it will be impactful. Tuesday, we’ll go through the bathroom medicine closet, Wednesday I’ll open up every cabinet in the kitchen, and so on. Without a doubt, this reset is reminiscent of the Konmari method, because it works. There are systems in place from my first round of Konmari (5, 6 years ago?) that are still going strong, but with everything, they need nurturing to keep nourishing us.

Will you join me? Follow along with us on Instagram @yellowbrickhome, and let’s break some eggs together!

I love this idea! I’m in! I know I won’t be able to tackle all of the bedroom closets (for example), but whatever I get done will be such a help. Thanks for the idea and the motivation!ReplyCancel

Yes! I’m feeling this. We moved about a year ago, so the systems we put in place are operating at various levels of efficiency. Also, having pulled out tons of decorations in December – then receiving new holiday gifts – our things are just not getting put away as tidy as we’d like. Review/reset is exactly what we need! ReplyCancel

I try to do 15 minutes of decluttering everyday, but as I cross out the obvious places it makes it so hard to figure out what to do. I LOVE the idea of adding a schedule of what to focus on each day! I won’t be done quite as quickly but I’m definitely stealing your schedule!!ReplyCancel

Great idea but I don’t do Instagram or Facebook so will the content be shared on this blog?  I’ll watch a youTube video too but I don’t participate in the social media platforms that employ a weird algorithm of likes and targeted ads for a variety of reasons that are important to me. ReplyCancel

I second this! I’d love to follow along on the blog or youtube, but I don’t have social media accounts. ReplyCancel

A third vote for also posting on the blog for those of us who prefer not to use the social media platforms. ReplyCancel

This idea is Awesome! I try to reset and reorganize my closets and cupboards but I get stuck on how can I make this work better for us! Can wait to read about the process. Thank you!ReplyCancel
