Lay of the Land

You’d think that after reminiscing on our home’s progression this week (you can see it here and here), we would have been polite enough to share the layout. Because, come to think of it, I don’t believe we’ve ever shown you. So below, you’ll see the super simple floor plan that was given to us somewhere between saying We want it! and signing our names on 500 sheets of paper. Oddly enough, we’re pretty sure this isn’t the exact plan (it’s pretty darn close), but it is our neighbor’s layout. The only difference is that our hall curves a bit more than presented below.

During the initial house hunt and after a few weeks of touring homes in our favorite Chicago ‘hood (it didn’t take us long; we knew it when we saw it), we saw layouts larger and less expensive. We saw layouts that needed a lot of work and we saw some that were move in ready. Some were smaller, and some were more money than we would have liked tied to our names, thank you. But this guy, well, this one was not big, it wasn’t small (by city standards), and it was beige and shiny and right next to the bus stop (kind of a big deal).

Oh, and you know what else we’ve never done? A video. So we attempted it. And this was my first take and yes my hands are shaky, and yeah, it’s about all of 2 minutes. No music, no frills, just my narration. Here’s what it might look like if you walk in our home and take Scott’s famous dime tour (he coined that one – oh, zing!).

And now the internet folk can appropriately imagine my voice whilst reading stories from our tiny slice of web.

Cute! The thing that always impresses me with video tours is that every room in the house has to be clean. :) It’s not like you can move all the clutter to another room while you snap a picture! Haha. I love your house.ReplyCancel

Love the video! I always love hearing people’s voices. It’s fun to see the layout of your house in “real time.”ReplyCancel

    Kimbo,
Great job on the tour. Can you do more posts with video? (Flea markets, craft fairs, neighborhood shots etc.) Keep up the good work!ReplyCancel

Dave, we’d love to do more video! I just have to learn to keep a steady hand… Maybe Scott should do all the shooting.ReplyCancel

I’m sorry, but I have to ask. Where do you guys keep your litterbox? Your home looks so clean and pet mess free. I myself live in a 725 feet apartment and I too have 2 cats and 1 dog, and I can’t seem to find a good place to keep the litterbox without it being seen.ReplyCancel

Hi Giselle! We get asked this quite often, so no worries. Believe it or not, the litter box is stashed between our bed and the window wall in our bedroom. It’s completely out of sight, and it’s the only place they like to have it. We tried moving it to the office once, and that was a HUGE mistake! Our litter box also has a lid, so it’s not terribly offensive in any way – unless one of them forgets to “flush”!ReplyCancel

Hi Rosie! Thanks for asking – it’s actually just our utility closet. Not very exciting, ha!ReplyCancel
