How We Keep Our Upholstery Clean (+ a Giveaway!)

How we clean our upholstered furniture // via Yellow Brick Home

This post is in partnership with BISSELL®

One of the big reasons that we enjoy being a part of this home-loving community is because so many of us also share the love of pets. I can’t even begin to count the amount of times that you’ve said, I’m here for the dogs! Isn’t it a funny but wonderful thing that complete strangers can form a bond, simply for having a dog (or a cat or a bunny or a lizard or…)? It warms our hearts to know that you, like us, have a hard time imagining a home without these loyal best buds – with their cold noses, bubblegum paws and warm bellies. Our pets are family, they bring our house to life, and, well, if we’re being honest, they bring the mess, too.

We wish we were kidding when we say that every single decision we make in our home is a direct result of being pet parents. This will look different for everyone, of course, depending on your own pets’ behaviors, habits and quirks, but for us, we’re mindful of the rugs we lay, the weave of a throw blanket and the upholstery on the sofa. It’s important for us that the items we bring into this house can withstand a busy family, muddy paws and an upset belly from time to time, because accidents can and will happen! We always say that nothing in our home is too precious, and when it comes right down to it, we love these pets of ours more than we care about a mess.

But you know what helps? Being prepared. Last year, we shared with you how the CrossWave Pet Pro® changed the game, and it’s still our go-to for an overall deep clean as a part of our healthy home routine. We loved it so much, that a few months later, we purchased a BISSELL® SpotClean Professional, a powerful portable spot cleaner for upholstery, carpet and car interiors – to name just a few things!

This thing works. Scott and I get giddy when it comes to trying out new-to-us cleaning products, and we were so impressed with the performance of the SpotClean Pro, that we couldn’t help ourselves but to clean All the Things! (And then boast our love on the blog, too.) We love that it’s compact in size, but the 5′ hose and power cord are long enough to scrub a sofa, the stairs and the seats in our car with ease. The tank is large enough to handle multiple cleanings, and only a small amount of BISSELL’s concentrated cleaning solution is needed for the deepest clean. In other words, we’re not pausing in the middle of a job to refill a tank.

There’s a small trigger that releases the cleaning solution in a fine spray, and we’ll scrub the brush over tough stains before applying pressure to lift away the excess moisture through the hose:

No matter how many times we’ve used it, we’re always raving about how clean and fluffy and new our furniture looks when we’re done! It’s the perfect companion to our CrossWave for when we need to refresh the sofa or clean up a small accident quickly.

It’s no secret that Scott and I are over-researchers (to a fault, at times!), but in this case, choosing a BISSELL brand cleaner was an easy decision. Not only are their concentrated cleaners earth, family and pet friendly, but did you know that BISSELL donates $10 of your registered purchase towards animal welfare organizations around the country? The BISSELL® Pet Foundation™ was founded by Cathy Bissell as a way to reduce the number of animals in shelters and rescues through pet adoption, spay/neuter programs, microchipping and foster care. BISSELL wants every pet to find their forever family, just as our pets have chosen us and our home as theirs. Note: If you already own a BISSELL product, you can give back to the pet community by registering your product here!

As a bit of backstory, Scott adopted Libby from a clinic after she was surrendered by her owner for being “problematic” (I say, in air quotes). She had asthma and intestinal issues, but Scott fell in love with that tail-less behind and sweet personality on the spot, and he welcomed her into our family without hesitation. Her issues subsided with medicine and love, and over time, we completely weaned her off of medication! A few years later (and almost ten years ago to the day!) we adopted Jack, and he completely changed our lives. He submerged us head-first into what it meant to be the responsible owners of a Pit Bull, and many of the friends we have today are a result of joining community groups to advocate for the breed. Jack is gentle and stoic and minds Libby no business, but he also has an excitable side and loves to greet every person who walks through our door.

When we moved into our current home, we wanted Jack to have a companion, and he chose CC. She was everything we thought we didn’t want. We worked through a local rescue, requesting a white Pibble with a pink nose (pretty please, as if we had a say in the matter), and they said, sure thing, we have just the dog for you! The rescue owner immediately texted me a photo of a rotund chocolate chunker, and she said, trust me, this is Jack’s soulmate.

Our days tend to be full of chaos, cuteness and cuddles – and yes, a lot of messes. But by now you know, we’re not too worried about that.

How we clean our upholstered furniture // via Yellow Brick Home

Here’s the thing. We can’t imagine our home without our pets, and the BISSELL SpotClean Pro helps us to have our pets and our clean home, too. And because we couldn’t love their helping hand any more, we asked BISSELL if we could share that love with you, and they were enthusiastically on board. So together with BISSELL, we’re giving away a SpotClean Professional to two lucky readers! Here’s how:

  • Using the Rafflecopter widget below, enter as many ways as you’d like.
  • You must be located in the United States to be eligible.
  • Giveaway runs through Tuesday, February 6th, and the winner will be contacted directly. Good luck!

    • Kim2.1.19 - 7:18 AM

      Aw, feel better, kitty.ReplyCancel

    • Colleen2.1.19 - 6:39 PM

Lol I double and triple research every single product I buy too!!!ReplyCancel

  • Ellen | Ask Away Blog2.1.19 - 6:38 AM

The fact that I can conveniently grab it even in the midst of having company over, and quickly spot clean is a game changer in my household with 4 dogs!ReplyCancel

    • Kim2.1.19 - 7:18 AM

Such a great point! So quick and easy. The clean tank with formula lasts so long, so you don’t need to refill it as often either!ReplyCancel

  • Scott McCracken2.1.19 - 7:00 AM

I have an older version of this that’s starting to show it’s age. We have two shelter dogs that have a history of getting sick in the house and I simply can’t imagine not having a Bissell spot cleaner to help with the messes.ReplyCancel

  • Sarah2.1.19 - 7:04 AM

My upholstery cleaner went kaput a couple of months ago and I’ve been shopping for a new one. Dogs, cats, babies and husbands make it a necessity!ReplyCancel

  • MARA SMITH2.1.19 - 7:11 AM

Wow, perfect timing! We just bought a non-leather sectional, after living with leather for 10+ years, and we are so anxious about how to clean it. This seems to fit the bill, perfectly!ReplyCancel

  • Rachel2.1.19 - 7:44 AM

    1. Oh man, your pets are SO freakin’ adorable.
    2. We have one of these too, and LOVE IT!! Gross backstory–although we also have two dogs and love it for that reason, it was actually HUMAN mess that precipitated our purchase… We threw a New Year’s Eve party in 2016 and invited a couple whose marriage we didn’t realize was awkwardly disintegrating. Her “friend” showed up halfway through the party, at her invitation (rude!), and her husband got super drunk and threw up in a closet that’s one of the only carpeted spaces in our house! YIKES! Even after cleanup we felt like the carpet needed to be… more clean… so we ordered the Bissell Spotclean and some Nature’s Miracle carpet shampoo (another fave!) and went at it. That carpet had never been properly cleaned since we bought the house in 2015, and holy COW the dirt that came out was incredible!! Seriously, the dirty water tank is SO gross but also satisfying. We love using it on other stuff now… we’ve actually been meaning to use it on our car upholstery to see how that goes!ReplyCancel

    • Rachel2.1.19 - 7:46 AM

Side note–it might just be me, but I have a lot of trouble with the Bloglovin’ platform–I feel like I have to click through three times from my email to get to the actual full post on your site, and then the comments box is super bogged down/unusable on my phone (I tried to comment earlier but decided to just wait until I was at a computer). Just thought I’d throw that out there in case you’re ever weighing a change!ReplyCancel

      • Kim2.1.19 - 7:56 AM

And yes, we have a long list of changes we’re working on, and the mobile interface is one of them. I’ve also noticed having an issue with the Bloglovin’ app on my phone and clicking through to read blogs. I wonder if that part is a Bloglovin’ issue? Either way, thank you for your feedback. We NEED that right now as we make some bigger changes to come soon!ReplyCancel

        • Jennifer2.2.19 - 10:46 AM

Yes, I think the Bloglovin’ phone app is definitely experiencing trouble. I’ve effectively stopped using it, it became so troublesome. But only using the computer does mean bigger pics of the pets! Woohoo!ReplyCancel

    • Kim2.1.19 - 7:55 AM

OH MY! Ugh, that sounds like a mess – both literally and figuratively! But yeah, the dirty tank is so, so satisfying, right?! (And we LOVE Nature’s Miracle, too!)ReplyCancel

  • Jen Thompson2.1.19 - 7:54 AM

With a bunny and a puppy we could put this to good use in our new home! Thanks!ReplyCancel

  • Brittany W2.1.19 - 7:56 AM

I’d use it to spot clean my old apartment carpet.ReplyCancel

  • Michelle2.1.19 - 8:03 AM

I was researching “best ways to clean sofa” JUST this week so it’s wonderful to see your post about the Bissell Spotclean. Seeing a post full of your furry family members always makes my day!ReplyCancel

  • Baronica Duarte2.1.19 - 8:08 AM

We have two cats, but I am sure it will get the job done too!!! Thanks!ReplyCancel

  • Greta Wesslen2.1.19 - 8:09 AM

This looks like an amazingly helpful pet product. I have struggled with keeping our upholstery clean with our dog.ReplyCancel

  • HeatherB2.1.19 - 8:15 AM

Our big cleaner died. I had been waffling on buying another…such a pain to lug out, considering most of our messes are constant but relatively small. This seems soooo perfect! Would love to win (but probably need to budget buying even if I don’t). Thanks for sharing!ReplyCancel

  • Holly2.1.19 - 8:24 AM

Would love this to clean our couch and rug from our 2 rescue pups! We bought a couch with removable covers thinking how great it would be but it’s such a pain and the arm rests have to be caked with dirt!ReplyCancel

  • Jackie G.2.1.19 - 8:30 AM

Recently getting a dog that we allow on the couch means that we probably need a better upholstery cleaning solution! This sounds like the perfect thing.ReplyCancel

  • Tara C2.1.19 - 8:50 AM

My husband and I are expecting our second baby boy in three months. When we had our first baby boy two years ago our poor kitty became so stressed that she pooped on our living room rug every night for NINE MONTHS. It was so stressful to be nursing a newborn in the middle of the night and then step in the mess, hopping around on one foot. And THEN have to clean it! If she has the same problem with our second baby, this will come in so, so handy.ReplyCancel

  • Heather Thompson2.1.19 - 8:54 AM

Your pups are just the sweetest! I have two dogs, and a not-serious-but-annoying dog allergy that I ignore because they’re worth it. But being able to clean our rugs and upholstery quickly and easily would probably mean less sneezing, which is always welcome ?ReplyCancel

  • Samantha Byrne2.1.19 - 9:06 AM

I have the bissel crosswave and it was a complete game changer with my dog. Traditional mops just pushed the hair around so I would have to vacuum first. I would love to use this one to clean her spot on the couch!ReplyCancel

  • Amanda H2.1.19 - 9:07 AM

This looks so easy to use!ReplyCancel

  • lak2.1.19 - 9:09 AM

Got my first dog when I was 52…life has not been the same since. Love my dog to pieces! She and the Bird get along great! The new vacuum cleaner came next. Would love to win this pet product. But after reading the comment about the poor new mom stepping in cat poo…well she needs it more than me. Love your blog!ReplyCancel

    • Kim2.1.19 - 10:28 AM

Aw, don’t dogs bring so much life and love into a home?! The best.ReplyCancel

  • Ola2.1.19 - 9:14 AM

Just got a new couch. This is the perfect thing to keep it pristine.ReplyCancel

  • Lauren k2.1.19 - 9:21 AM

Thank you for the opportunity! We have a dog who sheds like crazy and two little boys. You can imagine how badly we need this!!ReplyCancel

  • Jennifer W2.1.19 - 9:27 AM

With an 80 pound lab who truly believes he is an eight pound lap dog, we could use a little extra help in the cleaning department!!ReplyCancel

  • Alli2.1.19 - 9:27 AM

I was just talking to my husband about how we need to invest in one of these. With a little one and lots of wood floors plus rugs — it seems like a must.

    Love following along! :)ReplyCancel

  • Hannah Gokie2.1.19 - 9:27 AM

We have a 3 year old golden retriever (named Murphy) and honestly she’s tended to be cleaner than our 2 year old and our 4 year old…so I’m sure that the Bissell would get used for all of them! haha!ReplyCancel

  • Megan Hilton2.1.19 - 9:29 AM

This has been in my Amazon wishlist for a long time! I’m glad to see it get such good reviews!ReplyCancel

  • Alexandra2.1.19 - 9:37 AM

Another dog lover here who also wants to maintain a clean, white sofa (glutton for punishment, I know)!!ReplyCancel

  • Amanda2.1.19 - 9:42 AM

This is honestly one of my favorite posts ever. Thank you for sharing the stories of how your family grew from 2 to 5 (and now 6)!ReplyCancel

  • Samantha2.1.19 - 9:42 AM

Oo, I could use this for both my six month old puppy who is having a hard time with potty training and for my almost three year old child who is beginning potty training. Fingers crossed!ReplyCancel

  • Maureen2.1.19 - 9:46 AM

this would be a god send as this would be for my mother’s condo. It is hard for them to get marks off their carpeting and this would enable them to get the marks from the grandchildren away so it looks fineReplyCancel

  • Carrie2.1.19 - 9:46 AM

Considering that our dogs have complete control over the FURniture, this would be so great!ReplyCancel

  • Joya2.1.19 - 9:48 AM

I have a 3 year old pup and my brother visits with his 3 month old pup. This would be amazing for all the little puppy messes. Also in our light gray interior car after rainy summers and wet winters. Hey, even adult humans need to clean chocolate or spilled drinks out of the couch sometimes.ReplyCancel

  • Jessi2.1.19 - 9:49 AM

We have two fur babies – a Yellow Lab and a Chihuahua/Terrier mix. They couldn’t be more different! We love them both and their messes. This would help us keep up with them (and our infant daughter)!ReplyCancel

  • Rachele Ponomar2.1.19 - 10:01 AM

3 rescue kitties in our house means lots of messes! We could definitely use one of these!!!ReplyCancel

  • Sarah2.1.19 - 10:03 AM

Always enjoy the pics of your pets so much! We have 5 rescued dogs ourselves. Can’t wait to try this product some day, I love how compact and portable it looks….we could definitely use it that’s for sure!ReplyCancel

  • Jessica2.1.19 - 10:05 AM

This has actually been on my “to purchase” list but I just haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Knowing you give it the thumbs up is a bonus!ReplyCancel

  • Liz C.2.1.19 - 10:12 AM

Love when you share practical things!ReplyCancel

  • Heather O2.1.19 - 10:15 AM

We JUST adopted a new puppy and he’s just the best! We love him to pieces and is actually pretty well potty trained. This would be life changing though since A) we’ve had accidents and B) just to keep things fresh and clean. Thanks for hosting!ReplyCancel

  • Kate M2.1.19 - 10:18 AM

We have THREE dogs whom we love dearly but they sure do make a mess on virtually every surface. We bought a brand new couch that I’m absolutely in love with but I’m so paranoid they’re going to damage it! With a brand new baby Coming any day now, the messes aren’t going to get any better and knowing that I could easily treat any canine or human accidents so easily would be quite the load off my stressed out mama mind!ReplyCancel

  • Haley2.1.19 - 10:36 AM

One puppy that puts EVERYTHING in his mouth, one messy husband (:)), a rotating cast of foster pets, and the desire for an ivory couchReplyCancel

  • keller2.1.19 - 10:40 AM

so excited about this – i was just researching upholstery and rug cleaning yesterday! thank you!ReplyCancel

  • Niki2.1.19 - 10:49 AM

This would be game changer for cleaning up after our senior kitty Mama. She’s an old lady and we love her, but she creates a lot of messes.ReplyCancel

  • Courtney2.1.19 - 10:52 AM

We had three dogs, just went down to two when we lost our old lab. :( She had spinal stenosis and lost the use of her hind legs, and had lots of accidents in the house. This would have been helpful!

With our two remaining dogs, and two kids under 3.5 years old, I am CONSTANTLY cleaning up some spill or mess! I need this in my life, lol!ReplyCancel

  • Lara2.1.19 - 10:54 AM

We just got a puppy – this would be perfect!ReplyCancel

  • Zoe P.2.1.19 - 10:55 AM

I have been eyeing one of these cleaners for soooo long! I got an amazon gc for xmas and came THISCLOSEReplyCancel

    • Zoe P2.1.19 - 10:59 AM

anyway, continuing with my comment, haha (not sure what happened). I was going to say there’s nothing more adult than that! We have 2 kitties, Kiwi and Clementine. Kiwi is a little food hog who eats too quickly and then…well, you know. We just moved into a new place with very nice refinished floors and I’m constantly worried he’s going to ruin them! Although he did puke in his own food bowl yesterday (LOL), so maybe we are on the right track!ReplyCancel

  • Emily W2.1.19 - 11:02 AM

I’ve been hesitant to invest in any nice rugs or furniture because of our pets and toddler, but I feel like this would help me take the leap!ReplyCancel

  • Jess2.1.19 - 11:04 AM

Love this! We also make every decision based on our pets!ReplyCancel

  • Beret2.1.19 - 11:07 AM

My mom has the Spotclean and LOVES it! We definitely need one in our house.ReplyCancel

  • Charlene2.1.19 - 11:10 AM

I’ve never known how to clean my upholstered chairs and sofa, this is perfect!ReplyCancel

  • Anne2.1.19 - 11:11 AM

This is making me concerned that I don’t clean my house enough.ReplyCancel

  • Sarah2.1.19 - 11:14 AM

These little cleaners are the best! We received one as a wedding gift and almost returned it. 10 years later with 3 small boys I can’t image our home without it. Similar to pets, there are always messes to clean up!!ReplyCancel

  • Stephanie2.1.19 - 11:20 AM

We have a dog and an 11month old baby (and she is on the move picking up everything she finds!) so all I do is clean. I went through three different vacuums last year because nothing seems to do the job. I would love a vacuum that works on carpets just as good as hardwood floors.ReplyCancel

  • Teran2.1.19 - 11:20 AM

We’re about to welcome a baby to our crew of one lab-hound mix and one “Pittie Princess”. As you can imagine, there is a hair on pretty much every surface of our house all the time, and we’d love to have the tools to keep our home a little cleaner for baby! Especially our couch–officially a no-dog zone, but we catch them up there all the time! But they’re too cute to be too mad at!ReplyCancel

  • Sarah2.1.19 - 11:23 AM

Where is your white t shirt from?! So cute!ReplyCancel

    • Kim2.1.19 - 10:11 PM

It’s from Uniqlo (last season) – and thank you!ReplyCancel

  • Siobhan2.1.19 - 11:23 AM

With two kids under 3yrs, and two “accident prone” cats, this would be a huge help!ReplyCancel

  • Jenny2.1.19 - 11:23 AM

I’ve been dying for one of these! Just wait until Lucy is a toddler and every soft surface in your home and car has mysterious stains… My two year old is a master of smashing anything peanut butter into my sofa!ReplyCancel

  • Megan2.1.19 - 11:29 AM

Ohhh! I’ve been wanting one of these. My doggie has a habit of licking the couch while on it.ReplyCancel

  • MelissaB2.1.19 - 11:30 AM

Oh man this would help with all the toddler and cat messes of my daily life!ReplyCancel

  • Anna H2.1.19 - 11:30 AM

My dog and my white rug are inseperable and I often times have to spot treat it and I don’t want to rent a carpet cleaner for just one rug so I have to manage without one.ReplyCancel

  • Denise A2.1.19 - 11:30 AM

Love your rescue story! We have an exuberant German Shepherd and it’s good to know there is something that can handle his messiness!ReplyCancel

  • Nicole2.1.19 - 11:32 AM

I borrowed a friend’s spot cleaner once and should have bought my own by now – clean upholstery has been on my to-do list for years! This would actually help me accomplish that!ReplyCancel

    • Jo2.6.19 - 6:12 AM

Reader from the UK here (hi!) so unfortunately I cannot enter the giveaway, but I’m looking at buying one of these cleaners and wondered what your experience is of using these on vintage wool rugs? We have a few and I’ve noticed some colour run when I’ve tried to clean before by hand, but hoping a machine like this could do the jobReplyCancel

      • Kim2.6.19 - 8:04 AM

Hi, Jo! We’ve used this for spots on our vintage rug in our living room with no issues, however, it’s not a super saturated rug to begin with. Unfortunately, it would be tough to say without first doing a test spot. We love this little machine SO much, it would be worth reaching out to BISSELL customer service and starting the conversation with them!ReplyCancel

  • Deena2.1.19 - 11:35 AM

Ummmm… ok I need one of these! You guys know damn well how many dogs I end up with sometimes at my place!ReplyCancel

  • Holly2.1.19 - 11:40 AM

Love the pups and that you advocate for them! My first rescue was unintentionally a pit because he was being abused by his owner. I soon learned that they weren’t allowed in my county due to BSL. I quickly moved to a county where they were welcome, but as a renter, I still encounter many leases that exclude the breed. It equally infuriating and heartbreaking!ReplyCancel

  • Carolyn2.1.19 - 11:42 AM

Love hearing about your furry friends’ stories! This upholstery cleaner seems perfect for the job!ReplyCancel

  • Wendy2.1.19 - 11:44 AM

I have a great Bissell story to share. Our historic home, built in 1848, that we own in Grand Rapids, MI was once owned by Anna Bissell! We have the original deed with her name handwritten on it. She was the first female CEO in the US. A pretty amazing woman. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Sutherland_BissellReplyCancel

    • Kim2.1.19 - 10:10 PM

That is so cool! I love that! BISSELL is truly an inspiring company.ReplyCancel

  • Kelsey Arnett2.1.19 - 11:49 AM

Rescues are, hands down, the best! We recently got a cat (first time cat owner!) Who was surrendered by her owner because she followed and was clingy! Like, wtf? Isn’t that what you want in a cat? Haha! She is definitely a people cat and loooove cuddles and attention. We also have a pit-mastiff-lab mix recuse! He is gigantic (150 lbs!) but he is a big sweetheart. We call him our Nana dog because he is amazing with our kids! He just follows them around slowly, plops down wherever they play and let’s the baby crawl on him or acts as a table for impromptu tea parties ?ReplyCancel

  • Marjory Hamlin2.1.19 - 11:52 AM

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks about how dog fur and dog nails and dog DIRT will affect every single thing I bring into my home. Can I remove this pillow cover to wash it? Will their nails snag this embroidery? I also have given up on regular length curtains and have started using shower curtains (only 72″ long) because one of my guys likes to sleep behind the curtains and then they get that nice southern red mud all over the bottoms. Actually, most everything in my house right around the 2′ high mark has a smear of dirty dog.ReplyCancel

  • Nieka Harris2.1.19 - 11:52 AM

Oh all the things I would clean with this beautiful machine!ReplyCancel

  • Kate2.1.19 - 11:54 AM

Two dogs, two cats and an 18 month old with another babe on the way. Chaos and messes are perpetually present in our house! Wouldn’t have it any other way!ReplyCancel

  • Alexandra Bottone2.1.19 - 12:00 PM

Oh this machine sounds like a dream!ReplyCancel

  • Brittney Bonner2.1.19 - 12:01 PM

    This looks so useful!ReplyCancel

  • Maura2.1.19 - 12:06 PM

This is such a great giveaway! We have a furry little Bichon-Pomeranian who has a twice-daily routine of rolling all over our bed and couch as part of his post-meal celebrations. It’s adorable, but definitely leaves a trace!ReplyCancel

  • Grace Ray2.1.19 - 12:09 PM

As part of our push to embrace minimalism, we recently downsized into a much smaller house. For the first time ever, we have carpet and I am constantly surprised by the little stains that crop up here and there. A Bissell spot cleaner would be absolutely brilliant and because of its compact size, fit perfectly in our smaller space!ReplyCancel

  • Jen2.1.19 - 12:14 PM

I need one of those. SO MUCH FUR AND DIRT. OY!ReplyCancel

  • Melissa Peal Davis2.1.19 - 12:20 PM

We have two lovely fur babies and could definitely use this! We have the Pet Pro already–so useful!ReplyCancel

  • Laurie2.1.19 - 12:29 PM

This would help me in so many ways! We have a15 month old human and a 10 old dog! Our rugs are always needing spot cleaning!ReplyCancel

  • Wehaf2.1.19 - 12:34 PM

We have 2 big dogs and a white couch, so this would definitely help.

FYI, the Rafflecopter options for Instagram say “visit” but when you click on them they say “follow along” – which is it? I visited both Instagram accounts but don’t have one myself so I can’t follow – can I take those entries?ReplyCancel

  • A Mam2.1.19 - 12:42 PM

Moving from an apartment with hardwood to a house with carpets – we’re gonna need something like that bissel!ReplyCancel

  • Carolyn Rooke2.1.19 - 12:43 PM

With a dog, this is definitely necessary! We’ve considered a steam cleaner for awhile, but just haven’t pulled the trigger. Now may be the time!ReplyCancel

  • Chessie2.1.19 - 12:47 PM

Oooh, this looks like something we NEED in our house. We also have a senior cat and she has some stomach issues lately, so we’ve been cleaning more spots on the rugs. I shared it with my husband, too. What a smart idea!ReplyCancel

Oh man! This would come in so handy; we have a 1 year old Goldendoodle named Archie who is a lovable ball of fluff and dirt!ReplyCancel

  • Nina manley2.1.19 - 12:52 PM

Oh man, I would love this. My 11-year-old pup was never a couch dog until recently. She’s getting older, and she’s discovered the joys of snuggling up with a fuzzy blanket. As a result, our couch is getting a little spotty.ReplyCancel

  • Nin2.1.19 - 1:02 PM

This would be a game changer in cleaning up after our cat & dog! They love to snuggle on our beds & couches but shed so much — currently we just drape our furniture with sheets so they can sit it on it without worrying about fur and stains :)ReplyCancel

  • CJ2.1.19 - 1:27 PM

No animals here, but I do have 3 small kiddos who definitely know how to make a mess!ReplyCancel

  • Mary Burkum2.1.19 - 1:31 PM

Oh my gosh, this cleaner would make a huge difference at our house! My husband and I both enjoy wearing shoes in the house. Our Minnesota weather isn’t exactly known for keeping the bottom of our shoes clean causing us to wear stains into our rugs. Additionally, we are sofa-snackers (ok, and sometimes sofa-meal-eaters) and spills and crumb trails definitely show signs after a time.ReplyCancel

    • Connies Peicher12.30.20 - 3:11 AM

I also like to wear shoes indoors. It seems like a bad habit that won’t change easily. But, I think Bissell vacuums will help us do a good job of cleaning up.ReplyCancel

  • Toni Evensen2.1.19 - 1:33 PM

I would use the Bissell Spotclean exactly how you do. Messy dog and baby!ReplyCancel

  • Liz2.1.19 - 1:33 PM

2 kids, 1 dog and so many messes. Would love it!ReplyCancel

  • Rebecca2.1.19 - 1:42 PM

Oh my gosh, my upright carpet shampooer just gave up on me and I’ve been researching new options that would let me do my sectional and chairs too! Or you know…. the occasional dog sick day issues.ReplyCancel

  • Melody Madzar2.1.19 - 1:45 PM

I’ve got a 7yo and a 3yo that would put this Bissell to good use!ReplyCancel

  • Jill2.1.19 - 1:47 PM

Our pupper just died, and it will be a while before we’re ready to welcome another buddy into our lives, but this would be perfect for when we do!ReplyCancel

  • Jenni2.1.19 - 1:48 PM

We have a purebred Boxer and a Boxer/German Shepherd mix, who leave large dog-sized messes almost daily. Rags and dish soap can only do so much, honestly. It’s tiring lolReplyCancel

  • Karissa2.1.19 - 2:06 PM

Pretty homes + adorable pets = the best accounts to follow ? And to top it off you rescued your critters and bought a home in Michigan (I’m a Michigander and I love it when people love the mitten as much as we do)!
I have a 10 month old puppy, a horse and a husband allergic to both ??‍♀️ so cleaning days cannot be missed at our house! I love that you mentioned you use it in your car, between taking our dog to the park and hauling around horse stuff, my car is in dire need of a deep clean to get the stuff a shop vac just can’t get!ReplyCancel

  • Megan Messer2.1.19 - 2:07 PM

Oh man, we have two little mutts we adopted. One we found on the side of the road *tear* and the other from a local group. I’m in the process of getting a new sofa, so this sounds like the perfect thing I need. Their little paws are sometimes a little muddy when the run the fence with their neighbor friends.

Question on your crossweave, do you use that has your daily vacuum too? Or is it more of a mop? I was looking at getting a steam mop but maybe the crossweave is a better option? Thoughts? we also have three kids: 4, 2, and 11 mo. The messes NEVER end. Wouldn’t change a thing though, except maybe adding a bissell. :)ReplyCancel

    • Kim2.1.19 - 10:09 PM

We use the CrossWave AFTER a regular vacuum. We have a Dyson that we use for frequent vacuuming, and we bring out the CrossWave to mop the floors and refresh the rugs!ReplyCancel

  • Kristen2.1.19 - 2:07 PM

This would be perfect!! We have an old vintage upholstered rocking chair and I want to give it a good clean before we put it in my daughter’s nursery!ReplyCancel

  • Courtney M2.1.19 - 2:08 PM

I have always wanted to try a Bissell cleaning product and have yet to pull the trigger!ReplyCancel

  • Liz2.1.19 - 2:23 PM

We’ve amassed a lovely rug collection, and are still learning how to care for them in a home with three (!) cats. It would be so great to take care of small messes as they happen, while continually forgetting to do a pro cleaning!ReplyCancel

  • Robin C2.1.19 - 2:27 PM

With a puppy, dog and four kids, I could use this to clean my upholstery!ReplyCancel

  • Sarah P2.1.19 - 2:28 PM

My 14 month old daughter vomited on our living room rug this morning. So, yeah, I was already researching carpet cleaning today when I read this blog post. Perfect timing!ReplyCancel

  • Sara Y2.1.19 - 2:34 PM

This looks awesome! Ever since bringing home a baby, our fur baby seems to be having more not so accidental accidents :/ This looks like it might be the perfect item to have on hand. Thanks for introducing!ReplyCancel

Your pets are so freaking cute! I love that this tool is so portable!ReplyCancel

  • Shannon A2.1.19 - 3:27 PM

With 3 kids of my own and 40 or more college students coming to our house once per week, this would be FANTASTIC.ReplyCancel

Yay great giveaway! Thanks for doing this! I would love to win – my corgi’s drool weirdly stains our living room chairs, haha.ReplyCancel

  • Danielle2.1.19 - 3:59 PM

What an awesome giveaway! And as the proud owner of a beautiful 10 year old yellow lab (rescued 6 years ago this August!), I am very familiar with all the stains – mystery or otherwise. I do have a question about using the Bissell on upholstery. Our sofas and chairs all have tags that say to use water-free solvents to clean them. I tried to find information on the Bissell website and found a page with their cleaners listed, but woah, there is sooo much info out there! If you have any thoughts, I’d love to hear them! Thanks!ReplyCancel

    • Kim2.1.19 - 10:12 PM

Ooh, that’s a great question. I think it would be worth reaching out to their customer service, and they’d point you in the right direction.ReplyCancel

  • Molly2.1.19 - 4:32 PM

Had no idea Bissell is such a pet-friendly brand. Great to know!ReplyCancel

  • Joy Nivong2.1.19 - 5:01 PM

My husband is so clumsy and always makes a mess. Bissell would help us clean the messes thoughly.ReplyCancel

  • Tim2.1.19 - 5:03 PM

Using this on furniture would come in really handy, but I think the place we would use it most is on our stairs. Aside from the fact that a shampooer barely fits, I worry I would fall trying to do it.ReplyCancel

  • Rust2.1.19 - 5:10 PM

This cleaner would be a great help with the upholstery.ReplyCancel

  • Monique G.2.1.19 - 5:59 PM

  • Elicia P2.1.19 - 11:06 PM

So strange that I was just telling my husband we need something like this yet I have not researched any yet.
My oldest was not as messy as my youngest. Our carpet is suffering and I am at a loss.
    That is why..ReplyCancel

Although I do love everything you post on this blog, I really get most excited seeing your sweet dogs in the pictures! I also have a pebble breed and grew up with them and can’t imagine life without those block heads! But they definitely do bring a mess to a home:)ReplyCancel

We added a rescue pitbull puppy to our home 7 months ago (which also has a tail-less cat and another pitbull!) and the messes….oof. A few rugs have been tossed and I’m hesitant to buy more. Buuuut this spot cleaner would be an amazing help!ReplyCancel

  • Noreen2.2.19 - 8:12 AM

I want to get rid of my white sofa so bad but my it’s my pup’s sanctuary. It’s hard to keep clean with just soap and water so i cover it with a sheet (real attractive right)? What wonders I imagine the Bissell could do for me.ReplyCancel

  • Beth2.2.19 - 9:10 AM

I need to get one of these. Between cleaning up after my toddler and cats this would really make life easier.ReplyCancel

  • RENEE JOHNSON2.2.19 - 10:23 AM

I literally just borrowed a Bissel from a friend of mine to clean our sofa- I know it’s not the last time we will need to use it, so it’d be nice to have one for our own!ReplyCancel

  • Jennifer2.2.19 - 10:42 AM

This seems nice and compact. I mean, I still want to see a picture of your vacuum cleaner storage, because I could use some ideas, but it seems like I could add this to my arsenal without too much trouble. Helpful for the elderly cat we now have that definitely has food issues this late in life.ReplyCancel

  • Mariana2.2.19 - 10:58 AM

This sounds so helpful! When our kitties have upset tummies, they love to puke on my favorite rug. The one I searched for months for. Sometimes we even watch them move from the wood or tile floor TO the rug to make their mess. Thanks, buddies!ReplyCancel

  • Dee Butler2.2.19 - 12:59 PM

I was just thinking about how I need something to keep our upholstered couch clean — a 2.5 year old and another on the way means we get lots of spills and crumbs and yogurt on it.ReplyCancel

  • Stephanie Ann2.2.19 - 1:46 PM

The Bissell vacuum would help make my life so much easier! I spend so much time vacuuming up animal hair in my house, it would be great to have an awesome vacuum that can get up the hair much quicker and efficiently. Thank you for the chance.ReplyCancel

  • Jan2.2.19 - 3:39 PM

This would be the best for all the spills from the grandkids. :)ReplyCancel

  • Jaime2.2.19 - 5:27 PM

We are over-researchers too! And with a cat and two small children we have more than enough ways to put this guy to use. Our couch needs some serious attention …ReplyCancel

  • Ashley2.2.19 - 7:12 PM

I have two kids! The question is: Where won’t it help? HahaReplyCancel

  • Annette2.2.19 - 8:59 PM

It would help me upstairs for spot cleaning places where my cat chooses to puke. It would be a lot easier than having to scrub with a cloth and cleaner.ReplyCancel

  • Megan2.2.19 - 9:47 PM

Man, we are always trying to clean up after our silly dogs! Like you said, we also can’t imagine our home without our pups, but they sure leave their mark! This would be extremely useful on our furniture and carpet in various rooms throughout our house, and help us feel a little better about our kiddos rolling all over the floor after our dogs have done the same. ;)ReplyCancel

  • Kiran2.2.19 - 10:13 PM

Love everything about this blog post!ReplyCancel

  • MONICA2.2.19 - 10:42 PM

  • katerose2.3.19 - 1:00 PM

With a new baby about to start crawling and two big doggos + a kitty, we’d use this on the regular to give our rug a baby friendly clean!ReplyCancel

  • Leslie M2.3.19 - 2:21 PM

I need an upholstery cleaner so bad! My son is 2.5 and is always spilling something on the couch. Spot cleaning is ok but it takes way too long to clean an entire cushion. The upholstery cleaner would make the cleaning process go so much faster.ReplyCancel

  • Eileen2.3.19 - 3:42 PM

Similar sitch -2 (dirty) doggos & a rambunctious 3yo. Our go-to right now is renting the Rug Doctor, but it’s very cumbersome, & it sometimes leaves a wet mess on our hardwood. I’d love something portable & easy to store to refresh the rugs, chairs, & sofas. Everything’s like the same shade of dingy grey. Plus, I never even considered using an upholstery cleaner in the car! Time and money-saver, I’ll bet!ReplyCancel

  • Meg2.3.19 - 9:15 PM

We would love to have an option for cleaning our upholstery! Our sweet King Charles Cavalier is a pillow lover and is on our couch all the time despite our pleas to get off the couch. ?ReplyCancel

  • Carolsue2.4.19 - 1:19 AM

It’s designed for pet messes and I have LOTS of those, not to mention kid messes. It would come in very handy!ReplyCancel

  • h2.4.19 - 11:38 AM

interested to hear that this has been working well for you. i loooove the idea of an easy/portable/effective carpet cleaner—one of our kitties has IBS and the other one is a Spite Pooper—but i had the little handheld bissell pet stain vac and it was awful. spilled solution everywhere, only worked about half the time, etc. fingers crossed that the more robust versions are better engineered!!ReplyCancel

    • Kim2.4.19 - 11:44 AM

We once bought a much less expensive portable cleaner from BISSELL at a yard sale. It worked a few times, but then we started having the same issues as you! This time, we sprung for the pricier version, and we’ve used it SO much. It’s honestly a dream, and it’s leaps and bounds above our past experience.ReplyCancel

I love CC (and Jack and Libby)!ReplyCancel

  • Samantha2.4.19 - 1:44 PM

I love how quick and easy you make it look, it makes a stressful time a lot more bearable – when the kids tell me our pet rabbit jumped on the lounge and had an accident, or our daughter comes to visit with her puppy and wants to claim every corner of the lounge. I would love this awesome cleaning machine!ReplyCancel

  • Kate Sawyer2.4.19 - 2:02 PM

I will admit I have not been a fan of Bissell products in the past. Their vacuums never last more than a year in our multi-pet household and we’ve gone through 3 of their upright floor cleaners that all broke down in similar time frames. Bissell’s solution? Tell us to drive long distances from our rural area to find an authorized repair center. But I love the idea of this little portable machine for spot cleaning!ReplyCancel

  • Danielle2.4.19 - 2:33 PM

Oh, boy. We have a toddler which is probably all I need to say. Our upholstered furniture will never be the same.ReplyCancel

  • Meg M2.4.19 - 4:55 PM

Our couch and living room chairs need some loving (and not the loving they already get from our furbabies!)ReplyCancel

  • Stephanie2.4.19 - 7:28 PM

  • Cathy D.2.5.19 - 6:39 PM

Ooh the portability of this sounds AMAZING! We own a ginormous pet/upholstery cleaner and it’s a pain dragging that out so I don’t get to clean as often as I’d like. Thanks for introducing this and for the amazing giveaway! It’s also great to know that you select home decor that are pet friendly. Can you comment on how that blue rug has held up? We’ve gone through two area rugs (one jute and one wool) because we couldn’t get the pet stains out. And I’ve just about given up on rugs. But with a toddler around it’s pretty much a necessity. Thanks again!ReplyCancel
