How Do You Decide Which Products are Best for Your Home + Family?

Michigan Tree House, surrounded by warm wood tones and greenery | via Yellow Brick Home

When deciding which products are the best for your home and family, where do you start? In our case, we’ll consider the project at hand – let’s say we’d like to add landscape lighting, but we’re overwhelmed by the options – and start by asking any friends who’ve recently completed the same. It’s no different than when they turn to us for advice; a first-hand recommendation is invaluable!

This post is sponsored by Lowe’s. Thank you for supporting the brands that encourage us to get creative, find solutions and create content for our DIY-loving community.

The Lowe’s List for Innovation

So what do you do when you don’t know anyone in the same boat as you? The team behind our go-to home improvement store have launched the Lowe’s List For Innovation, a brand new curated guide full of innovative products for impactful solutions around your home (and life!). Think of the Lowe’s List as a trusted friend on the inside, guiding you towards items that are not only consumer favorites, but tried and true recommendations from an entire community.

So imagine our surprise when we noticed that the Flo by Moen made the list! The Flo had been on our personal wish list for years, and last month, we installed it at our Tree House (located in SW Michigan) to easily turn our water on or off, while also using the Flo app to monitor any issues that may come up while we’re away – such as frozen pipes or a leak.

Smart Home Innovation Saves the Day

It wasn’t long after we insulated our crawl space and added the Flo that we received our first big alert. Our water usage was up – way up – and after a mild panic, we realized that a faulty sprinkler timer was to blame.

Through the app, we were able to immediately turn off the water in Michigan, without leaving our home in Chicago! It was an immense relief to see the stop of water flow, and we felt secure knowing that we stopped a problematic situation in just a few seconds.

While we still can’t believe the timing of the incident – having just installed the Flo by Moen, followed almost immediately by a water emergency – we’re grateful to have this smart home solution in the palm of our hand.

The Lowe’s List For Innovation features the Flo, alongside several other items that help us solve challenges around the home, large and small! I’ve rounded up the items that caught our eye, including our Flo (of course!), below. A Lowe’s List For Innovation badge will also mark products featured in the guide, so you’ll know you’re making the right choice for your home and family.

That’s a great story about your Flo. I really want to try it, and I’m trying to think how it would be useful in our long term rentals. I look more into it now.ReplyCancel

It was truly a lifesaver! There is also a whole set of sensors that can be placed near fixtures and drains to alert of additional leaks. The whole system is pretty ingenious.ReplyCancel

Where are the three planters on your deck from?  I’ve been looking at some to put in front of a sewer drain out next to the front of our house to hide it after getting our water and sewer main replaced last month (preventative).  I’m thinking of doing three of them similar in style to yours.ReplyCancel
