Hooray for Jubilee

Oh, Jubilee Furniture. Our hearts skipped a beat the first time we read up on this charitable organization, and we can now say that it’s well worth the forty-five minute drive out of the city. Located right off the main drag in the guts of Carol Stream, IL, Jubilee is sure to make a furniture lover’s knees quiver. Dining room sets, antique mirrors, brushed gold dressers, and wingback chairs run aplenty. Open only on Fridays and Saturdays, you’d better come early to snag the hidden gems.

And since Susan, Jubilee’s GM and cheerful mascot, posts the latest goods on her blog, you can make a last minute decision on whether or not to hop in the car and drive those extra miles. The reason we strapped on our snow boots and made a run for it? This oh-so gorgeous couch, which actually made us reconsider the one we purchased off Craigslist not too long ago. Now that’s powerful.

But what about some of the more unique finds? This Anthropologie-esque cushy couch not only drums up Parisian thoughts, but I swear this exact perch was just in last month’s catalog. A few fuzzy throws and tassled pillows, and you’ve got yourself a page right out of the glossies.

And the chairs. Oh, the chairs! If we didn’t already have ten projects in the works, I’d be asking Scott to strap a few of these guys on the Corolla. Some clean, crisp fabrics and a quart of paint could whip these babies into showroom shape. These are the times we yearn for a dining room table (breakfast bar, we still love you though).

But even though nothing was strapped down, tied up, or hauled off on the roof our ‘rolla, we didn’t leave empty handed. Out of the corner of his eye, the hubs spotted this ugly-but-pretty lamp, and it had to be ours. Unsure if it was truly thirty years old or just off the Crate & Barrel reject shelf, we decided to give the guy a chance. After digging through the lamp shade grave yard with Susan, we happily settled on a linen drum shade, and we were off to give it a home.

No worries, our stoop sale lamp didn’t get the boot. Rather, she found a new perch on our foyer console table, and she’s the first to say hello to any guests. Once again, we’ve found lamp love, and our new find is fitting in quite nicely. Hip, hip hooray for Jubilee – I have a feeling we’ll be back sooner than later. This could be trouble.

      Em,

I should probably mention that the only reason we didn’t do a couch swap was because the one you see here was only about 76″… As much as we love apartment sized pieces (we don’t have any other choice), this would have been just too small. If we had room for an extra seating area, or even an empty corner in the office or bedroom, this would have been strapped on our car in a heartbeat! It was one of those finds that you see in home decor mags where the source list states “found on craigs,” and you think, how? who gets rid of a piece like that? (Those legs, the fabric, oh!)

The best part? (Or worst part, depending on how you look at it) It was only $160. ReplyCancel

Wow Kim – what a wonderful post about the store! Thank you. The lamp looks wonderful! I wasn’t so sure about the shade, but it really looks great. It, again, makes me realize how truly awful the lighting is in the warehouse. Stuff often looks just so-so until you get it in the light and then it’s amazing!

The brown sofa went home with a wonderful young couple who were thrilled. The leather one is still waiting for the right buyer though. :-)

Thanks again for helping to spread the word about Jubilee Furniture!

    Take care!ReplyCancel

Oh man, I wish there was something like that in my town. I love that they blog about their new finds as well~that’d surely get me up and out the door early on a Saturday. And your newly acquired lamp looks great!ReplyCancel

Love the lamp! You make everything look so cute and somehow fit just right!ReplyCancel

  • Oh, thrifting is so much fun! That place looks like a real gem–most of the thrift places around here aren’t put together with much eye for aesthetics. Love that Anthro-esque couch, too!
