Gobble, Gobble

No, it’s not Thanksgiving.  Although, a huge slice of sweet potato pie could hit the spot any time of year.  And yes, it’s still summer (thank goodness).  But we did just take a stop through Turkeyville, USA! Yup, you heard right.  Although this post is a bit late in the making, we spent this past Memorial Day at Cornwell’s, otherwise known as Turkeyville.  After spending a much needed relaxing vacation with a friend and her family in Jackson, Michigan, we heard through the grapevine (the grapevine being her grandmother) that Turkeyville was home to a fabulous all day flea market.  Who are we to pass that up?  Although we were returning to sweet-home-Chicago that day, as luck would have it, the turkey farm was just a skip out of the way – and well worth the less-than-10 minute detour off of I-94.

So there we are, soaking up the sunshine, strolling along, and what do I spy? Well, to be honest, a whole lot of junk to me, or perhaps another man’s treasure, as they say.  But among the the sprawling farm full of tables, bargain hunters, costume jewelry, and endless shampoos, trinkets, and whatsits, I spotted him.  And he now lives in our home.  You can call him Henry. We do.

Check out that beautiful shade of orange, the proud stance, and adorable ears.

What about that silly smile and adorable bottom? To be honest, Henry was one of the first things we saw on the very first table at the very edge of the market.  I kept him in mind while trying to hold back my excitement.  I mean, honestly, an orange elephant?  After about 2 more hours of browsing (and more importantly, bellies that were ready for the world famous turkey sandwiches), we went back for the little guy.  Marked at $6, we only had 3 bucks in our jeans.  After convincing a friend for an extra buck, just in case, we approached the vendor and squeezed her down to our goal of a measly $3.

Of course, that was after she guilted us with her supposed starting price of $12 at the start of the weekend.  Oh, well, we won.

And that is the story of Turkeyville.  We left with a new addition to our family and bellies full of turkey sandwiches.
