Giveaway: Yours Truly, Yellow Brick Home

This giveaway is no longer accepting entries. Thanks to all who participated!

Nope, that giveaway shout out above is no accident. Today, this little yellow brick home is over the moon to announce our very own giveaway in conjunction with the official opening of The Pet Shop, a (new) tiny division of YBH specializing in pet paintings. Go on, check it out over on that sidebar. You’ve been asking for it, and we’ve been bursting to share it with you.

If you’ve been following us for a while, you may remember the custom mini painting I gifted to the hubs for his birthday over a year ago. Since then, we’ve been busy bees whipping up a slew of behind-the-scenes requests, as you may have seen here, here, and here. And we’ve been busier than we’ve let on. From pups to cats and even a chinchilla, we’ve never been happier capturing those sweet fuzzy (or not so fuzzy) mugs.

Our goal is as easy as it gets – to bring simple, cheerful art into your home. Using slick acrylic paints on a 4×4 piece of wood panel, our made-for-you art pieces are discreetly signed and come ready to hang. Of course you can also visit The Pet Shop at any time for more details.

To kick it all off, we’re giving one lucky reader the special treatment. You tell us about your prized pet, and we’ll paint ‘em. Whether it’s your own furry child (or perhaps you’re the aunt, uncle, or grandparent), we can’t wait to get started.

Now, here’s what you really want to know.

Up for grabs: One lucky winner will receive a 4×4 personalized pet painting made to their liking. We’ll work with you from start to finish to pull off your vision.

To enter: Simply comment on this post with a great, big hurrah! And just for fun, tell us about your pet (or your pampered niece, nephew, or grandchild). After all, we love hearing about your prized pets as much as we love talking about ours.

Big bonus: 1) Subscribe to Yellow Brick Home in your favorite reader or 2) become our fan on Facebook for 2 additional comment entries (one comment for each) and 3 total chances to win. Already a loyal subscriber and fan? Just re-post this giveaway within your social network (such as Facebook, Twitter, or blog) and submit up to 2 additional comment entries (one comment for each re-post). It is up to you to return to this post and comment for each additional entry. Be sure to tell us your reason for each bonus entry.

Giveaway ends: Monday, September 27th, 6pm EST

Shipping restrictions: US of A only, please

There is a chance for up to 3 separate comment entries, although they are not all required (but why not, right?). The lucky-dog (er…cat, hamster, bunny or snake) winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Tuesday, September 28th. Good luck and happy entering!

The Pet Shop has been sleuthing gifts for your pet loving friends and family, too. Looking to create a unique gift on the sly? We’re here for you. My, what a good friend you are.

Love this! My pooch is a 10 lb shih tzu mix with an endearing underbite. She loves to eat (just like her momma) and play fetch and I would love to have a painting of her!ReplyCancel

  • Kim B9.20.10 - 8:55 AM

Don’t count this as an entry…I just wanted to be a proud gushing mama and say that is my Golden, Foo, in the yellow painting above :) Isn’t she the cutest?? ;) I love my painting, Kim…and once again, your art work brought tears to my eyes <3. The lucky winner should be thanking their lucky stars because these pieces are truly one of a kind…and priceless. Thanks again for ours. I will treasure it for years to come. ooxxReplyCancel

  • Emily M.9.20.10 - 9:01 AM

I’ve been hoping for MONTHS to get a pet painting of my boyfriend Bill and I’s wonderful, handsome, ridiculous puggle. Half-beagle, half-pug, all amazing doggit. He waits, looking out the window, for me to come from work every day and lets out the biggest howls until I make it up the stairs to the apartment. We love him more than anything and would love to immortalize him in 4″ acrylic glory ; )ReplyCancel

  • Melissa9.20.10 - 9:05 AM

I’ve been waiting so long for this announcement! Sounds like I should have been brave enough to ask before! :) good luck with your new venture and good luck to Ziggy, who’s dying to see his Doxie-self immortalized!ReplyCancel

  • Eric @ flavorspaces9.20.10 - 9:24 AM

Aww I love this post! You art is so beautiful so I’ll enter my pup McKinsey or Kinsey for short. She is an 9 month old Blenheim cavalier king charles spaniel. She is super sweet and playful. We love her.

When she was a puppy she jumped off the sofa and hurt her leg. She has had some other self inflicted injuries from doing things she shouldn’t be doing so we refer to her as our kamikaze puppy. Each time we had to bring her to the vet she was medicated so we also call her Lohan sometimes. :)ReplyCancel

  • Leslie9.20.10 - 9:33 AM

I already follow in my Google Reader and am a fan on Facebook. :)

I’d like to enter my mom’s fat Yorkshire Terrier, Ringo. She says he was her [meno]paws dog, and he is just like her youngest child, so he is like my second little brother. He’s as spoiled as they come and her loyal best friend. He gets overly excited and hyperventilates, sleeps on the back of the couch like a cat, swims in a pool, and loves to wear his bandannas – getting defensive if someone tries to take it off of him.ReplyCancel

  • Sean9.20.10 - 9:35 AM

After yesterday, in which my beloved 10 lb yorkie, Maxx, decided to roll around in his own poop, I relish the opportunity to preserve him as a clean pup without having to bathe him 3 times. Thanks!ReplyCancel

  • Karrie9.20.10 - 10:01 AM

HURRAH! Those paintings are so cute! My sweet, little puppy (mix of golden retriever, poodle and brittany) is about to turn two! It’s a little sad to know she’s not really a puppy anymore. We fostered her (and her 8 siblings and her mom) from two weeks old until eight weeks old. She won us over in that time so at eight weeks old, she permanently became ours. I would love to win one of your paintings…I think it would capture her personality perfectly.

Here’s one of my favorite pictures of her…http://thebrickcottage.blogspot.com/2010/06/wheee.htmlReplyCancel

  • Leslie9.20.10 - 10:53 AM

My favorite magazine, Real Simple, just posted a blog post about Pet Portraits so I added a comment to the post about your portraits! That site gets TONS of traffic. :D

  • Mary Ann9.20.10 - 11:16 AM

I’m not sure how much my husband would appreciate this, but I would absolute adore it! My two precious cuties are rescued kitties. Meepy was found by one of my clients on a trip to the dump. Her name is actually Roo, but she makes this meeping noise ALL. THE. TIME. I love her. She’s our little princess and absolutely loves our son (real boy, not pet). Any time he cries, she’s right there checking up on him, making sure I’m doing my job. And if I’m not sufficiently soothing the little guy, she’ll interject by climbing in his lap where he’ll usually calm down and start loving on her. Our other four-legged lovey is Tiger. I found him at a shelter and he’s such a character. He knows exactly how to drive me crazy to get what he wants (which is usually food) and then he’ll nuzzle up and start his motorboat engine purring. Love.ReplyCancel

  • Amanda9.20.10 - 11:19 AM

Hurrah! I’ve only had my doggy for a couple of weeks, but she is warming up to me pretty well now. However, she is REALLY annoying in the morning! I swear she knows when my alarm is supposed to go off, so about 15 minutes before that she starts panting and prancing around my room and putting her face by mine. She’s still adorable though, and really, that’s a more welcome way to wake up than a jarring alarm, so I shouldn’t complain. The kitty is also warming up to her quite a bit. She’s an outside cat, so she’s always getting into adventures. Thanks for the giveaway- I just love your stuff!ReplyCancel

  • L9.20.10 - 11:22 AM

Awesome! I may have to get some for our cats.

In the meantime, I’d like to enter my family’s dog. We found Mollie ten years ago as a very sick two-month-old puppy- but then ten years later, she was the smartest, healthiest, most loving (and spoiled!) dog I’ve ever known. My dad would drive the car with her to the end of the driveway for the mailbox, just because Mollie loved riding in cars. She curled up every night on the living room rug to watch the evening news with my parents, and every night she slept at the foot of their bed. Two years ago, on Christmas day when I was back home visiting, Mollie was hit by a car. I’ve only seen my father cry twice in my life, and that was one of them. I’d like to have something to send back home to my parents, to memorialize her.ReplyCancel

  • amie9.20.10 - 12:14 PM

I’m so pumped for this and to see the new shop! I love your paintings.

Abbey Cat is a big furry ball of love. She’s still got that kitten personality where she rarely cuddles with us, but chooses to bite our ankles on a daily basis. She sleeps at my feet and wakes me up by nipping at my arms and knocking everything off my nightstand until I feed her. We love her so much!ReplyCancel

  • Erica9.20.10 - 1:33 PM

Fun! These are adorable. Congrats on expanding the side project!ReplyCancel

  • Jenny P9.20.10 - 1:40 PM

These are adorable! Our french bulldog (Harriette) is seriously like our neighborhood celebrity, mostly because she has one floppy ear, which is incredibly cute!ReplyCancel

  • Jessica9.20.10 - 2:20 PM

    Love ’em!ReplyCancel

  • Amy9.20.10 - 2:32 PM

HURRAH! Our fun lovin’ little bun has been anxiously awaiting his chance to have his picture painted! :) I’m sure if he won he’d do a binky or two (for those of you without rabbits a “binky” is when a bunny leaps straight up in the air and performs a 180 … or in some cases with Pete and entire 360! It’s quite entertaining). Of course because he’s spoiled (and we love your paintings) he’ll end up with a portrait regardless of whether we win it or actually purchase it!ReplyCancel

  • niru9.20.10 - 2:40 PM

Yay! Your paintings are so cute :) I’ll enter my cat! She’s a mommy of six kittens(all in other homes now :-( ), and pretends to be very aloof when our puppy attempts to play with her. She also enjoys laying around the back of my shoulders like a scarf and taking a nap there :)ReplyCancel

  • Renee9.20.10 - 3:37 PM

Finally!!! :) My home is occupied with two felines, Emma & Elsie. We already have 3 amazing paintings of yours in my studio, as you know, but would love a chance for another one. Either way, I’ll be purchasing some more for my home!ReplyCancel

  • Rachel9.20.10 - 4:06 PM

Those are great! My husband and I have a standard poodle that we are slightly obessed with. She makes us laugh, is very flexible and loves to cuddle!ReplyCancel

  • Hannah9.20.10 - 4:17 PM

I have seen your paintings hanging in Gooch’s house. They are great!!!! I would love to be a proud owner of your amazing work! We have a full house! In order of seniority….Our cat Stinky, full name Stink Foot, is a skinny little tabby with a very loud voice. She is addicted to cat nip and loves her fancy feast. Our Shepherd mix, Bogart, has a curly tail, a spotted tongue and loves belly rubs. Our beagle mix, Touhy, is named after the street we saved him from. His nickname has become Mr T. and he is a little macho guy with really short legs. Surprisingly, all three get along. (:ReplyCancel

  • Kristy C9.20.10 - 4:23 PM

Hurray! I would love-love-love to gift my fiancee with a personal painting of our spoiled dachshund, Zoe.ReplyCancel

  • Valerie9.20.10 - 5:14 PM

Yay! I was wondering if/when you would start offering pet portraits for sale. Yours are the cutest I’ve seen!

Speaking of cute, have you met our dog, Ninja? She is an American Bulldog mix who we rescued in the spring. She loves long walks, birdwatching, treats and tummy rubs!ReplyCancel

  • Susan9.20.10 - 10:00 PM

I love love love the way you capture the kids, allowing the simplicity to say so much. Beautiful bright colors, too!
Maakye & Pepper are my two feline sisters who couldn’t be more different, or awesome!ReplyCancel

  • Lauren E.9.20.10 - 10:37 PM

Love this!! I am already a fan of yours on facebook. Our beloved beagle mix is a spoiled little dog named Banner. We adopted him about 3 years ago and love all of his quirks. From “singing” to making strange noises, and hogging the bed, we love him and couldn’t imagine our lives any other way!!ReplyCancel

  • Stephanie9.21.10 - 9:11 AM

HURRAH! I would love one of those paintings! I have two beagles and they are the love of my life. Dinger grunts and grunts like an adorable pig after he eats, when he wants a treat, when he is being pet and whenever he is happy. Willow is in love with Dinger, he is the light of her life. She also spins around as fast as she can.http://www.flickr.com/photos/sbogdanich/3217780863/in/set-72157618973764746/ReplyCancel

Yaye! I’ve always enjoyed your post on the animal artwork. I’m excited that now I can have the opportunity to own one.

I’d like to enter my 2 year old female black and white tuxedo cat that we’ve properly named Oreo. She’s loves to give kisses and play fetch with her toys.ReplyCancel

  • Jessica9.21.10 - 11:03 AM

hurrah! those pictures are great. I’d love to get one of my adopted terrier mix. He is a grumpy old man and i love him so!ReplyCancel

  • Katie9.21.10 - 11:30 AM

Congratulations on the opening of your store! Huzzah!

A bit about my pet – Sir Thomas More is a rabbit of distinction. He’s also pretty silly, very soft, and a little skittish. He’s black with a white spot on his head, and white in his coat in the “salt & pepper” fashion. Have you ever had to paint a rabbit?!ReplyCancel

  • Penina9.21.10 - 1:16 PM

I just about cried when you gave me the painting of Rider (from a photo you took of her which also hangs in my dining room, to boot). It was one of the most thoughtful gifts I’ve ever received (the red, the pants…) and it looks just like that little jerkface old lady! So I am entering to get one as a gift for someone else :)ReplyCancel

  • Shannon9.21.10 - 9:40 PM

My yellow lab, Georgia, is my best friend. She’s a typical lab–loves water, playing, and food, hates squirrels and being alone. I’d so love to have a little portrait of her!ReplyCancel

  • K.C.9.22.10 - 12:30 PM

My husband and I have two dogs: Isabela McWrinkleface and Eleanor Roosevelt, or Izzie and Ellie for short. Izzie is a 50 lb. black lab/pitbull/who knows mix and Ellie is a 24 lb. chocolate lab/hound mix. Ellie looks like a miniature Izzie, but she definitely rules the roost! We would love to have a potratit of our two babies :)ReplyCancel

  • Max S.9.22.10 - 12:56 PM

my fiance’s dog, Rosa is the other woman. seriously, of all the animals i have ever met in my whole life, she is the least dog-like i have ever encountered. she sighs when she is irritated! she rolls her eyes when she is bored! she is a white german shepherd, which means she is beautiful. and she knows it. i have known my fiance for over 15 years, and no matter that i have been here longer, she is the queen and wants everyone to know it. it took her a long time to love me, but now we are friends. she is getting on in her years, but i would love to give a painting of her in all of her regal glory to my fiance, so that no matter how long she is with us, she will always rule the roost.ReplyCancel

  • Jen A9.23.10 - 9:31 AM

I have two special fuzzies in my life – how could I choose just one?! I guess that means you’d give me a freebie and I’d end up paying you to do the other one if I win ;)ReplyCancel

I would love to surprise my daughter with a portrait of our sweet grey tabby cat Oliver. He is her constant companion, sneaking into her bed to curl up and listen to stories at bedtime, patiently enduring rides in baby carriages and “dress up”, and walking behind us to school in the mornings! Thank you for the chance.ReplyCancel

What a COOL giveaway! I’ve SO LONG wanted a painting of my baby girl, Delali Dipstick. She is the light and joy of my life. She is eight years old and a bonafide princess. Of course, all I want is for her to be pampered and happy with tons of warm sunbeams to stretch out in. Happy kitty = happy momma!

    Thank you!

Okay, I can’t pass this one up!

Zoe is my girl. She’s a (mostly) Cocker Spaniel mutt. My husband and affectionately call her The Hairy Beast. She’s 9 now, but I adopted her at 3 from the Nashville Humane Society. She’s the most mellow dog eve, but somehow feels it is her duty to notify us when the neighbors come home later (or earlier) than expected. Thanks, sweetie. I appreciated that 1am barking session. I was very concerned about Man Cave next door being out so late. I can now sleep with my mind at ease. :)

As an aside, I love your blog and come back on a regular basis to be inspired. Thanks for sharing your lives!ReplyCancel

So, so fun! I am a proud mama of a little papillion. Seriously, I never liked little dogs (but our living situation necessitated one, and I really, REALLY wanted a dog), but she is the most wonderful dog in the world!

(Of course, I have to say nice things … she’s sitting on my lap watching me type!)ReplyCancel

  • Call Me Pretty9.23.10 - 3:04 PM

I have two young cats that are practically attached at the hip. My girls, Charley & Lucy, are referred to as “box kitties” as they rarely nap anywhere but their beloved cardboard boxes.ReplyCancel

  • Jessica9.23.10 - 3:16 PM

Hurrah! I’m so glad you’re offering these now, I’ve admired the ones on your walls for ages. We lost our best friend back in December, but I had 19 amazing years with our sweet black cat. BC (I named him when I was 11) was a ‘people’ cat, loved to be the center of attention, preferred his water with ice, and never minded a little noise. We miss him very much, and hope to find another pet half as cool as he was soon.ReplyCancel

  • mrs.marcus9.23.10 - 5:52 PM

Neat giveaway! We have a lovely cat named Mokey.ReplyCancel

  • Adina9.24.10 - 9:00 AM

Well – we use to have 4 dogs but everytime we have a baby one of our dogs dies. Luckily we only have two kids our last one was born in April and our beagle, Taylor died in May. They did a biopsy and she ended up having liver cancer, she went down hill fast and thankfully she had a great life. We have two great dogs still Hunter from the humane society and Shadow a stray that Hunter picked up on one of our walks 6 years ago. I would walk Hunter every morning and we would see this stray dog that would walk with us everyday. It got to be where the stray would wait for us outside our house in the morning. After two months of this after our walk we left the front door open until the stray finally walked in. We took him to the vet to check for a chip, there wasn’t any and we have had him ever since. We named him Shadow because he would shadow us around the neighborhood.ReplyCancel

  • Meegs9.24.10 - 9:16 AM

What a great giveaway! Our girl is Daisy, a 75lb black furred bundle of affection (a lab). She loves running around the yard (especially to chase squirells!) and snuggling with her people. She’s the gentlest thing (our 7 month old loves to use Daisy as a post to help her stand!), and so well behaved. We are so lucky to have her!ReplyCancel
