Christmas Cravings

Every year around July, I start craving the holidays.  I love the music, the warmth of a fireplace, and Scott’s mom’s famous shortbread. I know it’s not right, but I just can’t fight the warm fuzzies I begin craving in the Summer.  And then before you know it, it’s here, and I’m pretty sure I just may be the happiest girl on my block.

So to kick it off right, we sprinkled some holiday cheer throughout our home, starting with these pitchers of ornaments. Yup, I said pitchers. For just six smackers and a trip to CB2, these adorable beakers were just the right size to house our gaggle of crisp silver and green baubles. The best part was that we already had them on hand (you may remember them filled with chilled mojitos). Our home already has a few pops of Behr’s Chlorophyll paint, so rather than fight it, we went with an all green theme and tossed in a few dashes of pretty silver. And wouldn’t you know, our local craft store and the wonderful world of Target was practically giving their holiday decor away.  Forty-five ornaments and $14 later was all it took to dress up our media console.

We even threw in a few lonely leftovers to spruce up our honeymoon shell collection. While adding a bit of holiday spice to our wall shelves, our big guy got a little boost, too.

And with the holidays come candy, when it’s perfectly acceptable to nibble all month long. Right? I spruced up our growing collection of Ball Jars with a spiffy white bow, and voila, you got yourself a sweet little candy dish.  While I was determined to stick with reds and greens, you’ll notice that the hubs was persistent enough to throw in a few Sour Patch Kids flavored candy canes. Ah well, can’t complan, really.

Next to the holiday tunes, I look forward to trimming the tree. Unwrapping each ornament never gets old, and every year there’s always a few we forgot we had. From our Ralphie to the poppy pinecones, we all have our favorites.  Our newest addition? The boot that was picked up during our jam-packed anniversary trip to Nashville. She got the front and center spot. Lucky.

Our home stereo plays Christmas carols ’round the clock nowadays, but don’t worry, Scott doesn’t mind.  I think he’s grown quite used to it, really.  He may not croon with me, but I’ve heard him hum along from time to time. Aw, what a guy.

When it comes to your Christmas (or insert any holiday here) heart strings, do they begin tugging away during the hot Summer months? Do you crave the tunes, hearty foods, and family time as soon as the turkey bones hit the trash? Or do you prefer to stay away from all things silver and gold? I’d love to know that at least one person out there craves a good dose of holiday helpings.  And dare I say I actually enjoy the crowded malls? People watching should be a sport.
