If At First You Don’t Succeed: Part I

Try, try again.

Sometimes, we get so excited about an idea that we jump in with both feet and don’t look back. As an over-researcher of pretty much everything, it can feel so liberating to just make a decision and run with it! No more Googling, no more questioning. But sometimes, after that initial thrill, we’ll step back and say, huh, maybe it will grow on us? (And this is why I always fall back to my over-researching ways, friends.) Let’s just say, we are not immune to renovation indecision.

But here’s the good news: If something isn’t working out, there’s no harm in trying again! Our home needs to work for us, never against us. It should come as no surprise that as we continue to tweak here and there,  we fall more and more in love with our home. When any visual chaos is removed, it’s like a sigh of relief. Aah, much better.

Our most recent tweak? We experimented with Crate & Barrel’s new paint line to – once and for all! – change up the color in our entryway coat closet. You might remember that we wanted a big punch of color, and boy, did we really go for it. We loved it for about a month, and then one evening as we were taking a friend’s coat to hang in the closet, the combination of nighttime + green closet + light bulb = ouch! So fluorescent; so wrong.

The Crate & Barrel colors are a collaboration with the no-VOC paint brand, Colorhouse. This was our first time using Colorhouse, and, well, color us impressed. The formula is nice and thick, and the curated palette available from Crate & Barrel is classic. We landed on Purple 01 (or should I say, Scott landed on? What a guy!), and the soft lavender is so, so pretty. It’s muted enough to feel grown up, with enough grey mixed in to keep it soft in the evening, too.

We love it. Love. It. We shared the entire story on the Crate blog, right here! Coming up, another tweak that made all the difference. Because when in doubt, why not?

This post is in partnership with Crate & Barrel, and you can view their entire paint line here! Thank you for supporting the brands that support us (and our missteps!).

The lavender color is so pretty. We just painted the living room and entry a nice white this past weekend. I totally forgot about the entry closet. I’m loving the idea of a fun color in there!ReplyCancel

I really like that color. Years ago, when I first moved into my condo, I painted my bathroom lavender (BM Lavender Lipstick) and I still like it; however, I’ve been contemplating redoing my bathroom. I’d like to retile it with white subway tile, swap out my cherry wood vanity for a smaller white one, and paint the walls a white with perhaps just the smallest hint of purple or green. Though, I’m thinking it may be just too white. This could be the color I’m looking for — a little subtler than the color I have, but enough to go with the white. Thanks for the suggestion.ReplyCancel

Rebecca, it’s SO subtle, but definitely pink-lavender. It’s really pretty, we can’t recommend it highly enough!ReplyCancel
