Ch-Ch-Changes

The media wall may not be in place yet, but that still doesn’t stop us from humming Bowie’s tune lately. Those that know me well know that I’m not the most patient person on the planet. If I get an idea in my head, it’s full steam ahead until completion. So when we scooped up the new-to-us coffee table from Craigs (and for a steal), it only took a handful of weeks before our living room began evolving – one piece at a time. First the table, then this:

That is, the rug. Jack’s couch licking habit didn’t stop at our favorite perch – nope. He also managed to lick our last rug raw, but the thread bare spot was easily concealed by our honkin’ table. The table we’re no longer using. Our pup has come a long way since then, and fingers crossed he keeps up the good behavior. Lucky for him, his seal of approval wasn’t the only one, and we’re thrilled with the perfectly neutral shag rug. Of course we’re not the types to go busting out the plastic all willy nilly for a new purchase, so after researching our favorite web hot spots, we’re happy to report that Overstock won our business again. Again, for a steal.

The best part is that we finally snagged a rug that fit our space. From our dark days to the most recent Target find, we’d been making do with a 5’x7′. That’s fine, but it wasn’t ideal for our half living, half dining, very oddly shaped (and itty bitty) sitting room. The new kid is a shapely 7′ square, which allows the front legs of our furniture to rest easily on the shag (something we weren’t able to do before).

No room shots just yet, but we’ll keep you updated as we keep reaching for the finish line (ha, as if we’re ever really finished!). And out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on the shag? Feeling groovy, or not so much? Are you more traditional, contemporary, or maybe you’re all about exposing the hardwoods?

I’m all about exposing hardwoods – but not with dogs around! Yay for rugs!ReplyCancel

We’re going through a similar rug issue right now! We have an oval carpet remnant in our living room that’s been battered to heck, and I have to adjust the furniture six ways to Sunday to make sure it doesn’t teeter on the edges. Worse yet, it’s cream, which is not toddler-friendly!

But I love the shag–and the color’s terrific. I hadn’t thought about gray as a possibility for us. Hmmm…ReplyCancel

Hmmmm, I demand (fine, ask nicely?) for a whole room shot with this. I’d love to see how it fits in with your colors!ReplyCancel

Amanda, we’ll definitely be updating with larger room shots as it evolves. Bear with us, but we just can’t help but tease!ReplyCancel

OH NO!! (about the bald patch of rug) I loved that rug, and was enjoying living vicariously, since I have no room for that rug.

Looking forward to seeing larger room shots with the new rug!ReplyCancel

I hope that new rug doesnt get scratched up by the doggie. =)ReplyCancel

I’m wondering which rug you got from Overstock and if it’s still holding up well? I’m looking for a different color, but rug quality varies so much I was wondering what you chose and if you’re still happy.ReplyCancel

Hi Julie, we went with this rug:

      http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Hand-woven-Solo-Grey-Shag-Rug-7-Square/5482547/product.html

It’s holding up perfectly; we couldn’t be happier! The color is spot on with what you see on the screen (although even that can vary with between different monitors), and it vacuums well. I’m also noticing that the price has since gone down at least $20! Some “cheap” shag rugs have a tendency to look bald in spots – or at least you can see the backing through the front. That’s definitely not the case with this one. It’s soft, plush, and looks full.

Hope this could help you make a decision!ReplyCancel
