Boo

We have a ghost.

Really. To be honest, I actually like the idea of a Casper in the home – just as long as they play nice. Let me explain. Last week, I found myself awake at 3 AM. It was brighter than usual (considering the sun was still sleeping under the horizon line), and I quickly realized that our living room light was on. Weird, considering that to turn on the light, you have to purposely push the button on our remote.

After chalking it up to a probable kitty bump, I high tailed it down the dark hallway after flipping the switch, shaking Scott awake (so he could share in my neck chills, obviously), and then promptly fell back to sleep.

Fast forward to now. It’s still happening. And perhaps it’s just my imagination, but it only happens in the evening (or wee morning hours), and it’s even occurred right before our very eyes – with not a swatting cat paw in sight. Of course my better half (also known as the level headed one of this duo) assures me that it’s most likely a simple electrical surge, or better yet, perhaps the remote is just in need of new batteries. I don’t agree. In fact, we even named our new friend. Helen.

And while I secretly wish our story was a little more juicy, it turns out that Helen is a stand up gal. So this is where you come in. Spill those home-centric spooky tales. We love a good hair raiser.

This same thing happened to a friend of ours in a highrise in the loop. She and several of her neighbors, apparently, all had remote controlled ceiling fans, and sometimes when her neighbors used theirs, it would turn hers on as well. Maybe the same thing is happening in your building? Definitely not as fun as having a ghost, though!ReplyCancel

One time I went downstairs in the morning and the TV was on. That creeped me out! Of course Stan assured me that it was an electrical surge too. Whatevs, I still think there was a ghost who liked watching TV.ReplyCancel

My parents living room fan turns on at random times too (I saw it turn on at midnight when I was there a couple of weeks ago). I think it’s something electrical although I do get creeped out in their house by myself. You know me though, I’m a wuss.ReplyCancel

ooh spooky! I hope that Helen continues to be very polite..
The house I grew up in had a ghost, we’re pretty sure. Lots of weird things..my brother was woken up by his headboard shaking, my dad saw someone run up the stairs, my parents heard someone walk into their room in the middle of the night, lights would turn on and off and our dog would pick up on things and it would throw him into a barking frenzy in the front room barking up at the ceiling. Luckily, I wasn’t around when a lot of it happened but that didn’t stop me from beign extremely freaked out every night when i was going to sleep. I still can’t sleep too well there, I have to have the tv on to fall asleep in that house…ReplyCancel

I hear there’s a ghost in one of the houses on this weekend’s Logan Square house walk!ReplyCancel

I was watching Regis & Kelly today and David Boreanaz told a story that his bed felt like it was PICKED UP then DROPPED (in the middle of the night, waking them up), his wife and himself thought it was an earthquake at first. The next day they were asking around to see if anyone else felt this “earthquake” but, nothing. Cut to two weeks later … it happened again. So maybe there is a ghost?

Turns out that David noticed his bed was caving in the middle, so he looked under the bed and apparently it was just the bed frame unhooking! No ghost.ReplyCancel

You probably have a rely that’s going wacko in the remote. My ceiling fan had a similar problem. Finally had to replace the transmitter so now all is good. But I have to admit the “Helen” story is a good one. Happy weekend.ReplyCancel

Nuts, make that relay as in relay switch. Sorry ’bout the typo.ReplyCancel
