A New Look In the Dining Room!

blu-dot-chip-chair-08

This post is in partnership with Blu Dot.

More lately than ever, our friends have been saying, your home is so close to done! What’s next? Although the list of rooms on our to-do list is the shortest it’s ever been, we don’t even consider the rooms that we’ve shared done done. As our needs from room to room change, so does our home, and honestly, that in itself is one of our favorite ways to show this house some love. With every tweak, it always feels like a sigh of relief afterwards; what a difference that made!, we’ll say. It’s fun to mix things up, and knowing myself far too well, I’ll continue to swap pillows and chairs and rugs for as long as it makes me smile. Luckily, Scott enjoys the decision making process, too. No room is off limits, and that’s all part of the fun of finding our home’s style.

All this to say, for the last year or so, our dining room has felt slightly… off. Our chairs were a flea market score – one of the first furniture purchases we made for this house! – and although we loved their look, we were growing weary of how heavy they made the room feel. Paired with our wood table, we were constantly trying to break up the space with brass trays, vases and plants, but we always felt that we were just missing the mark.

Recently, Blu Dot invited us to the grand opening of their new store in Chicago, and we began counting down until the unveiling. We’ve been collecting their catalogs for years, although catalog is a term I use lightly, as it’s really more like a collection of beautiful, minimal photographs (on the prettiest matte paper to boot). They opened their doors in the Lincoln Park neighborhood this past November (at Armitage and Clybourn for our local friends), and it was every bit as dreamy in person as we imagined it to be. Being on the hunt for the perfect dining room chair for months and months, our eyes and minds were wide open that evening as we sat in every chair, and we fell hard for Chip. So handsome!

That same night, we brought home samples of their fabric, and we considered everything from purple to gunmetal, white oak to walnut. Initially, I wasn’t sold on owning upholstered dining chairs, but being able to feel the fabric in person had me changing my mind almost immediately. The fabric is thick and hard-wearing, and after putting it through the wringer (i.e., testing spills and clean up!), I was sold. After several days, we were still torn between pewter and gunmetal, and the store manager offered up an in-home trial, something they’re happy to do for all us indecisive folk in the world! We were sent home with a gunmetal chair, and that sealed the deal. The color itself is a dark grey, but there’s a strong warm undertone that keeps it from feeling cold.

Most importantly, compared to our previous chairs, Chip feels so much lighter! The style is so simple and sweet – cute, even – and our dining room no longer feels jam packed.

If you’re new to Blu Dot and don’t have a store nearby, we encourage you to visit them online! Their items are as efficient as they are good-looking, and every last detail is executed beautifully, from materials to packaging. The night of the opening, we were honored to meet the Minneapolis based founders, and their enthusiasm was downright contagious.

We’ve purchased a bunch from BluDot – a low dresser and their king sized bed with storage, among other things. Great quality furniture and the design is stellar. If we won the gift certificate, I think we’d probably buy a Turn stool or the Turn coffee table. Or maybe we’d splurge and get something bigger since it would be a substantial discount. Anyway – love BluDot! Great partner for you guys.ReplyCancel

    • Kim1.10.17 - 9:46 AM

I drove by the new store a few weeks ago and it looks amazing. I cannot wait to poke around inside. I’ve been searching for a durable, kid friendly ottoman for a while and the bumper looks like it would be perfect.

  • Natalie1.10.17 - 11:21 AM

I’d use it to help my Mom get her dining room sorted. She’s been in limbo for ages with a table that’s too big for the room and chairs that are too short for said table. I know she’d love to start fresh, and this would be a great jumping off point!ReplyCancel

  • Danielle1.10.17 - 11:33 AM

We purchased our first Blu Dot piece recently – the Pi Large Side Table – and absolutely love it! My only complaint is that they don’t have a store in Michigan. I’m on the hunt for a new coffee table and am in love with the Free Range Coffee Table (fingers crossed!).

The new chairs look great in your space – and awesome giveaway!! Thanks for sharing.ReplyCancel
