This post is in partnership with Anolon for A Night In.
It was a bad DIY day.
We started out on a positive note. We’re going to finally finish the laundry room today!, we said. Early on, we ran into a few road blocks. We roamed the aisles of the hardware store a little too long, and we searched for router bits that didn’t actually exist, it seemed. We called up Chris and Julia and, knowing they were in the same laundry-room-boat not too long ago, asked them what to do, and – hooray! – their advice not only helped, but it allowed us to push through to phase two of our project. Phase two, though? Phase two was not very kind. We made a teeny, tiny measuring error that wasn’t so teeny or tiny after all, and we ended the DIY portion of our day frustrated; our project was (and is) on indefinite hold.
So what makes a bad day better? Cookies. Cookies turned even our best frowns upside down.
That night, I fired up a holiday playlist for the first time this season (and I don’t care who knows it!), and I streamed the tunes through our kitchen speakers. I’ve always preferred baking over cooking meals, but I rarely carve out the time to make it happen. The majority of our baking utensils – sheets, spatulas and pans – are hand-me-downs, so I was especially excited to try out Anolon’s line of bakeware. Here we are at 34-and-35-years-old, and for the first time in our adult lives, we have ‘grown-up’ bakeware. It’s the little things, but it made our nighttime snack that much more enjoyable to make.
Scott’s favorite holiday treat is an old fashioned peanut butter kiss, and knowing I’d have the yummiest coffee companion for the rest of the week, I wasn’t about to turn down that request! He helped me pull out the flour, sugar and eggs, and Jack and CC anxiously awaited a slip of our spoon. It wasn’t a night for anything fancy, and we needed only a few cooking utensils to get the job done – a few mixing bowls, extra large cookie sheets, a good spatula and a couple of cooling racks.
Another thing we’ve yet to add to our adult kitchen? A cookie jar! But to be honest, I’d rather store our cookies in an air tight covered cake pan. This bronze one is cute enough to leave out on the countertop.
Is there anything cozier than a kitchen at night? (I might overuse the phrase ‘is there anything cozier than…,’ but really, is there?) For that reason, Julia and I are excited to have partnered with a handful of bloggers we love for our second installment of A Night In, and they all take place in the coziest nighttime room of the house. You can hop from room to room – or should I say, kitchen to kitchen? – below!
We got married in June, and after agonizing over reviews for literally every. thing. we put on our registry, we chose the Anolon 12-piece Advanced Hard Anonized (bronze) pots and pans, and we LOVE them! We cook quite a bit and thought about going the individual route, but we’ve used each piece a lot. I didn’t even realize they had bakeware.
And yes, as before, I love these nighttime posts!
Yup, next on our list is replacing all our hand me down pots and pans and getting ourselves ‘grown up’ cookware!
Just darling! I love it and I’m always in for a new cookie recipe.
Noooooooooooooo! Hole cutting mishap with the countertop?
Cutting the holes went perfectly – they’re perfect! – but we might not have added enough distance between the faucet and the bowl… Figuring out modifications now. Arugh.
