A Lighting Love Story…Sort Of.

I first spotted this light on Overstock during my daily rounds of browsing last summer. And yes, I online browse every day (as part of an unecessary sickness that’s just one of many). It was instant love, and as soon as I showed the hubs, he eagerly okayed the purchase. And no, he’s not one to let me shop for the home without running a few choices by him first. However, we had been wanting a new kitchen light, as our at-the-time fixture was a quick fix from the Swedish megamall, Ikea.

Which leads us to our problem. The geometric light of my life was out of stock the very next day. And every day after that for 6 months. Thanks to Overstock’s handy dandy email notification, I gave them not only my personal email, but Scott’s personal, my work, and every YBH address. When the happy email finally arrived last Christmas, I whipped out the plastic to purchase – and it was already out of stock. Again. And the story doesn’t stop there. This happened 2 more times.

But! There is a happy ending. My wonderful, loving father (bonus daughter points?) sent the hubs and me a generous Overstock gift card for Christmas (knowing my anguish and love for this now infamous fixture), and one fine day in February, the light was ready, available, and just waiting to be pulled from those warehouse shelves. And you know what? We got it. Albeit 2 weeks later thanks to a UPS fail. But you know what? We. Got. It.

And since I’m not exactly known for cutting to the chase, here it is. We said buh-bye to Ikea (on the left), and we said hell-o to Overstock (on the right).

And that, my friends, is a lighting love story. Now to be fair, the Ikea fixture didn’t technically peace out. Rather, we moved the efficient little guy to the office where it replaced a very unsightly hub of a so-called light. That light took a hike, and now we’re finally down to some pretty decent lights around the casa. Maybe I should stay away from the online browsing for a few days, no?

And just so I don’t feel left out, please tell me someone else out there in this cyber world has also had a traumatic online ordering experience? And who else would like to duke it out with the UPS man? Can he please just get on my schedule already? Come on, let’s lay it all out.

      Thanks, everyone!

And Kasey, my advice: If you’re in love with that light, buy it while it’s still in stock! If you sign up for Overstock emails, they frequently have 7-10% off specials. Plus, you can’t beat the $2.95 shipping on everything.

Believe me, my patience was wearing thin. Luckily I’m always in the middle of another project, so I didn’t have time to fall in love with a different light!ReplyCancel

I have to say, it was a lot of patience for a very impatient person. It’s sort of like waiting for the bus. 15 minutes have passed, and you wonder if you should start walking or keep waiting. Usually waiting takes longer, but at some point, it’s more about self defiance. Oh, boy.ReplyCancel

Love the light. Works well in your kitchen. I used it to transform a previously unused space into a dining area.
