4 Years

Four years ago today, these two nuts (for each other) got married.

It really snuck up on us this year, as most things seem to be doing lately. Maybe it’s because we took our annual celebratory trip earlier than we have in the past (to help ease the crunch of holiday stress), or maybe it’s just because we’ve been so wrapped around fest-prep and family ties (we have a few family members in our thoughts; love to all of themthat we’ve put our Kim + Scott time on the back burner.

Earlier this week, Scott asked me if we had any printed photos of us that he could put on his desk at work. (Aw.) I found the below photo in a drawer that was taken over 5 years ago – a silly, happy memory taken in the tree lawn of our neighborhood boulevard. (I couldn’t even find the original digital file, so what you see is a scan.) Scott’s hair was so shaggy and long, and I was struck by how handsome he looked; I begged him to grow out his locks just another inch or two – for old times sake, naturally.

I realized the next day how silly my request was, and an earlier conversation we had this week hit me. When I asked Scott holy jeez, did you know we’ll be married for four years this Thursday?, he smiled and said how far we’ve come since that walk down the aisle.

Now, he wears his hair slicked back and goes to work in ties and polished shoes. I wake up, walk across the hall and paint your pets. We’ve added Jack, our third four-legged kiddo, to this little family. We’ve learned to surround ourselves with those we love, trust and hold in the highest regard (and truth be told, that was a lesson thirty years in the making). We’ve worked hard to make this house a place we’re thrilled to call home, and (the kicker) we’re lucky enough to be more in love with each other than we ever have been.

Happy four years to the coolest guy I know.
