2022, the Year We Evolved

The Year We Evolved

In January, we said aloud that 2022 would be the year we evolve. For the near-10-years that we’ve lived in our Chicago home, our family has grown and stretched, but the way we were using our home had yet to catch up. It’s bittersweet to think that when we purchased our home in 2013, we were Kim and Scott – plus Jack, Maddie and Libby! This home allowed us to adopt another pup, and CC rounded out our family… until our littlest Goose joined the picture. Today, we are a family of 3 – plus Kitty! It’s been the adventure of a lifetime, and I can only imagine how I’ll feel when we celebrate our home’s 10-year-anniversary this coming spring. (It’s at this point that Scott would say, Kim, you can’t have pre-nostalgia!)

I’m proud of us for the year we’ve had. Lucy’s nursery evolved into a big kid unicorn room. (And we flexed every creative muscle we could muster to make an entirely purple room work!) We tweaked the play room – which still changes near daily! – and we made the craft room work harder for us.

Behind the scenes, we made cold calls and reached out to charitable organizations, and then the best case scenario happened; we teamed up with Casey to complete a weekend makeover for the most deserving person, Latanya! By far, it was one of the most memorable experiences in our lifetime.

Our kitchen renovation has been one of the most challenging and fun makeovers we’ve ever taken on! It started softly in the background at the top of the year, and then it slowly steamrolled into a full blown operation by fall. Maybe I shouldn’t tell you, but yeah, right, of course I will – she’s officially complete, and I photographed her from every angle this week. Even the stubborn fridge door (seen in the first photo, out of place when that pic was snapped) has been checked off our list. I’ll be sharing the reveal in the new year!

Everything you guys do I want to do too! You’re a huge source of inspiration, you have the best explanations and tutorials, pictures are gorgeous, and I love your level or detail and craftsmanship. I can always trust that you guys make it right while also making it look good. Every time I need an idea, I turn to YBH first. I forgot about your friend’s house makeover, and isn’t this this year that the condo finally closed (or end of last year?). I know your family has evolved, but YBH still seems like the same great, real place to visit for quality content and inspiration. I guess what I’m saying is don’t evolve too much, I love what you have going on. But I’m super excited for you guys and your plans for 2023 and what’s up your sleeve now that you have an assistant, and a Costa Rica trip planned, and hopefully more feel good makeovers, and a product line or something? Thanks again for everything you do, you’re my number one favorite stranger (someone I’ve never met in real life) to follow on the internet!ReplyCancel

Thanks so much for sharing your lives and projects with all of us! I’ve been hanging out here a while, and I want to echo what Julie said above: “I know your family has evolved, but YBH still seems like the same great,

I’m saying is don’t evolve too much, I love what you have going on.” 100% agree! :) Wishing you peace, relaxation, and beautiful memories this holiday season and throughout the new year to come.ReplyCancel

Just wanted to chime in with another huge thank you. Thank you for showing how to problem solve, how to pivot, how to make spaces work harder, how to work within a modest budget.  Thank you also for the Chicago specific inspiration! ReplyCancel

Happy New Year YBH! Scrolling the photos, they are so warm, so relatable, so authentic. While y’all have grown and stretched, you haven’t changed and that’s what keeps me coming back! I can’t wait to see what 2023 has in store for y’all!ReplyCancel
