2016, You’ve Been Real.

christmas-dogs

Do you take time, as the end of December comes near, to look back on the year? We’ve been thinking a lot about what 2016 has brought. We started the year with our big three-room-renovation, and in February, we allowed ourselves a week off to enjoy the warm sun with our friends. As soon as we returned, we hit the ground running on the design plan for our Lowe’s makeover, and a couple of months after that, we landed in Mission Viejo to knock it out! In-between, we checked off our bathroom, finished the master bedroom, and kind of on a whim, decided to tear down our 3-story deck once and for all and create a tiny backyard retreat. But beyond the happenings under our own roof, we’ve been digging deeper into conversations about everything – our city (that we love so, so much), the recent election and what will happen next year? Here, we share our home, but I think we’re all wondering what 2017 will bring.

We’re looking forward with an open mind in all aspects (and uncertainty, sure), but here on the home front, we’ll be starting on an entirely new room, too! It’s a space that some of our own friends don’t even know we have, because that door is never, ever open. We can’t wait to to share that with you, and we’ll be sneaking in a peek here and there on our Instagram stories @yellowbrickhome over the next handful of weeks.

Before we sign off for the year, we want to make sure that you know we appreciate you. We’re so thankful that you spend time with us, offer suggestions we otherwise wouldn’t have thought of and root on our renovations. You push us harder and keep us motivated, and you should know it doesn’t go unnoticed! If there’s anything you’d like to see more of (or on the other hand, less of), tell us. We’re listening.

We’ll be back in January, and until then, we’ve rounded up a handful of favorite posts from 2016, with the most special being a tribute to our sweet Maddie girl. (Just click on any thumbnail below to take you to the post!) We wish you all the warmest, coziest holiday, doing whatever it is that you wish – but also bellies full of endless cookie platters and spiked nog, you know, if that’s your thing. xx

I’m in Chicagoland and just love reading along and hearing about all your favorite spots! Would love to see you guys work on a few other local Chicago homes — anything from basic decorating and art (come to my house, please!) or bigger renovations. Also, you guys have such great partners — Ace, C&B — keep it up! ??ReplyCancel

I keep a little photo on my bedside table (she’s all curled up like a burrito in a blanket), and it’s still tough to look at! Thank you for the kind words.ReplyCancel
