01| Dear Two Flat, Demolition Begins!

‘Dear Two Flat’ is an off-the-cuff journal-esque vlog series that chronicles the renovation of our 130-year-old Two Flat in Logan Square, Chicago.

We’re kicking off a new series today! Dear Two Flat will be a casual, journal-esque vlog series where we can share the ups and downs of renovating our beloved Logan Square Two Flat in real time. Alongside our usual blog content, we’ll be peppering in this vlog-style story telling (monthly-ish) so that you can realize the much larger picture that comes along with nurturing an old home back to health!

Today’s entry is sponsored by blue painter’s tape – I mean, er, kidding! Seriously though, we’re doing what we can to salvage the good stuff (with the help of our friend, Blue Tape) and holding our breath while demolition begins. Here we go!

You can also view the video directly on YouTube right here.

VIDEO NOTES

Here’s an extensive photo gallery of the Two Flat.

Video music is by Birocratic: “Hurry!”

Our vlog was filmed with this lightweight camera

Nice, you found some brick! I hope you’ll be able to end up leaving it exposed. I love all the tape and that you’re keeping so much of the original charm. Demo is so exciting!ReplyCancel

I had to laugh during this video.  I think one of your smoke detectors needs a new battery, which, whatever, it’s being demo’d, who cares?  But our neighbor’s smoke detector has been beeping like that for 2 months and finally stopped this week, hurray!  But then while watching the video I thought, “nooooooo!!!!!!!  Not again!!!!!!!  UGH!”  Then realized it’s at your house, not mine.  Phew!
Love the progress update and can’t wait to see what you do with it along the way!ReplyCancel

“Don’t touch my hutch”  The saddest day was when we went into the 1910 3 family we just bought assuming all 3 floors had the same beautiful built in the 1st floor had only to discover they took out the 2nd floor one to put in an ugly closet with 70’s sliding doors!!  WHY????ReplyCancel

I love how excited you are about the renovation (and all your renovations!). You guys have such an awesome eye for the seeing the potential of a space and you’re awesome at encouraging others to see it too! Your first walk through excitement reminded me of how I felt when I bought my totally crazy fixer upper (check it out here https://landoflaurel.com/2017/09/05/welcome-to-berrybrier/). Now I look back at the old pictures and I think I’m crazy to have lived through the renovation! ReplyCancel

PLEASE tell me you’re saving the knotty pine!  At least sending it on to another good home and not the the dump.  I know it’s not for everyone, but (1) I love it and (2) it’s hard to find these days.  PLEASE send it to a salvage yard if you’re not going to use it.
I’m excited to see the wonderful things you do with the whole building!  I know it’s going to look GREAT when you’re done with it.ReplyCancel
