Lovely place! How do you like the Ikea patio furniture? I have been thinking about buying and am curious if it is comfortable, how well it is holding up etc. Thanks!

Kim - April 9, 2010 - 10:04 AM

Hi Lesley, the patio furniture is holding up quite well. It has survived another Chicago winter, and Scott and I plan to rub it down with oil as soon as the weather stays above 60 (I’m crossing my fingers on that one!). The quality is better than expected for Ikea. I’d say give it a shot! You can always buy some chair cushions for punches of color and that added ooh-la-la!

love your home, just gorgeous! for the IKEA foyer light, did you purchase this recently? i can’t find it on the website and i’ve been searching for something similar…

Kim - April 15, 2010 - 6:30 PM

Hi Tracy, thank you! Unfortunately, we purchased that light over 2 years ago, so it’s no surprise that it’s no longer being sold at Ikea. Have you tried Overstock.com? They have a great selection of pendants and chandeliers, some which are very similar…

Your house looks great! You are really adventurous with all the colour on the walls. I normally paint everything white and then go really colourful with everything else but now you have inspired me to take a chance and stray from white! I also have another Ikea question :) I was wondering about the units you painted and used as a media centre- do you have any idea of their name as I can’t find them on the website…

Kim - April 29, 2010 - 9:53 AM

Hi Gemma,

Thank you so much! I’d love to see some of the colorful solutions you come up with…

Regarding our media center – you’re right. It’s no longer sold at Ikea, which is a total bummer. It’s basically their solid-pine version of the Expedit series. And unfortunately, for the life of me, I cannot remember what it was called (a few Google searches turned up nothing). Because it was solid pine, we used patio deck stain to give it that gray hue, and we purchased short, Ikea legs and screwed them into the bottom. At our Ikea, they have a whole wall (or did at one point) of leg choices, which was fun to browse.

I hope this helps at least a little. I’m wondering if it can be made on your own? Have you tried perusing the tips and tricks from Knock-Off Wood?

Lori Scheid - May 7, 2010 - 3:12 PM

I bought the same light in your kitchen from Overstock because of your post. It is perfect for our dining room. Same experience, I had to wait for it to be available online. Boy was it worth it! Thanks.

Kim - May 8, 2010 - 10:44 AM

Lori, glad to hear! I just hope you didn’t have to wait half a year like we did! But you’re right – definitely worth the wait.

Jessica - May 10, 2010 - 10:11 PM

Hi, love the artwork–wondering which Ikea shelf is above your bed? Thanks!

Kim - May 11, 2010 - 12:05 PM

Hi Jessica, it’s the RIBBA picture ledge, found here: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50152595. Happy art hanging!

Alisa Moore - May 24, 2010 - 6:51 PM

Hi you two. I loved your office (seen on Apt. Therapy) so much that I ran out today and purchased the Behr Distance color and painted one wall of my drab living room….that and a nice cream colored area rug, made my room pop the way I’d hoped. I already had the nice yellow Herman Miller chairs. Now for Pumpkin Patch on the hallway walls! Love your place…very inspiring. Alisa Moore, Bainbridge Island, WA.
