Does Your Home Have a Scent?

This post is in partnership with Sydney Hale Co., for which you’ll find no less than half a dozen of their candles throughout our home. Use promo code YBH for 30% off your order through April 27th!

Do you ever wonder what your home smells like? You know, like when you walk into your best friend’s house, or your childhood kitchen or your neighbor’s living room and you’re greeted with the same scents that just feels like them. You’re immediately relaxed. Comfortable. It’s the perfume they wear, the detergent on their clothes, their go-to dish from last night or the candle that’s always burning. It’s familiar and inviting. In the back of my mind, I think, Do they feel the same way when they step into our home, too?

Recently, our friends came over for a low key hangout, and the second they walked in the door – before they’d shrugged off their jackets or bent down to scratch behind CC’s ear – they were saying, What is that? Something smells amazing!

That something was our very favorite candle from Sydney Hale Co. It’s on constant repeat in our home, but recently, we’ve been experimenting with others – Applewood + BirchBergamot + Black Tea and Lavender + Bay Laurel, their newest scent. We are complete devotees to Sydney Hale, a brand we stumbled upon by chance years (and years) ago in a local boutique. I brought home the Eucalyptus + Sage, and never have we ever talked so much about a candle as we did that first evening. We were hooked. Somehow, that one scent became the embodiment of everything we wanted our home to feel like – warm, safe, relaxed. If our home has a scent, we hope it’s this (because you never really know, do you?). It’s Eucalyptus + Sage, sure, but really, it’s comfort.

I began ordering their candles online – room sprays, too! – and I was over the moon when I realized that they’re more than just candles; they’re a brand that supports and promotes pet rescue, as their entire goal is to benefit dog rescue through their sales. This. This is all the reason we needed to get in line as their biggest fans. American made and beautifully packaged, the soy candles burn evenly all the way down (not a drop of waste!), and we’ve yet to stumble across a scent we didn’t love.

Lavender + Bay Laurel is the prettiest, freshest scent and one that we enjoy burning in the studio or on the bedside table. While Eucalyptus + Sage is our go-to,  the holidays in our house always call for Blue Spruce & Spearmint (arguably the most delicious wintertime candle!), and I’ve come thisclose to scooping up Garden Mint and Bourbon + Brown Sugar.

If you’re still undecided, they even have sample packs of available scents. And(!) did you know they also offer the most handsome dog accessories? Jack and CC have these, and it’s every bit as adorable as you’d imagine.

All this to say, we couldn’t be more excited to partner with a brand we’ve been supporting for years (really, this love letter could be much longer), and we’re thrilled that they’re offering our readers 30% off any order when you use the promo code YBH! (Don’t forget to tack on the cutest matchboxes you ever did see!)

Just for fun, how would you describe your home’s scent?

My boyfriend’s brother lives in a veritable frat house, complete with an actual pet PIG. We redid the entire place over the weekend and it looks amazing, but the smell is another story. Maybe this will do the trick!ReplyCancel

I would describe our home’s scent as as mild dog with a whiff of mildew every now and then. Occasionally, it smells like tator tots. 😀 Yesterday, after sanding the floors upstairs, it smelled like a really old museum or old government building. I honestly love that smell, and it’s a real thing. Our house is over 125 years old.

I shy away from chemical scents and cleaners, but I’m always on the lookout for something non-toxic and environmentally friendly. I’ll take a closer look at these candles. Thanks for the recommendation!ReplyCancel

I know exactly the smell you’re describing! It’s a good one. Another fave is a freshly painted room. Give me all the paint fumes, ha!ReplyCancel

I tend to stick with the simple fresh linen or crisp apple scents and maybe some cranberry in the winter, but the spearmint seems intriguing.

I’m also crying because the Best Friends charm is sold out. :-(ReplyCancel

We moved to a new house last year and I still don’t feel like it smells like “us.” I’m sensitive to smells and they trigger memories for me so I’m hoping we can figure it out for this house soon.ReplyCancel
