A Weekend in Paris

It’s nuts to think of how much we packed into a 3 day, semi-impromptu trip to Paris. With our number one goal being to hold a vow ceremony for our friends Jess and Scott (check!), we still managed to wear in our walking shoes, fill our bellies with an absurd amount of red wine and take in the flea market (where we picked up a handful of finds; more on the flea later this week).

We brought along a cheat sheet of French phrases – the most used, perhaps, was at the market to say, how much? – but more often than not, my high school Español reared its unwelcome head and gracias! escaped my mouth an embarrassing number of times. By the time I got the hang of it (Scott had no problems whatsoever, show off), it was time to head home – back to our Spanglish speaking Chicago ‘hood, of course.

In any case, Scott and I acted as full-blown tourists – I had a little red back pack and all, how nerdy! – and took photos of everything in front of our faces. It was hard to decide where to point our cameras (as in, plural – we brought 3; again, nerd alert) since everywhere we looked was beautiful. I’ve whittled down hundreds upon hundreds of shots into a few dozen to share now, which was no easy task. Trying to explain our experience is just as difficult (we smile and sigh when we bring it up, which makes sense to us, however, does no good for you), so our hope is that seeing Paris through our eyes might tell a better story.

We stayed at Hotel Crayon, and we ended every evening in the lounge with a bottle of the wine (the girls) and a glass of bourbon (the boys). The hotel alone was such a fun experience – color overload, a dream! – so much so that we looked forward to our nighttime conversations, when we recapped our favorite parts of our days while lounging in our jammies, chatting with the (awesome!) staff and eventually, falling into bed very, very happy.

Paris, we love you, and we can’t wait to see you again.

Have you been? And if so, what were your favorite parts of the city?

PS: We didn’t include any photos of Jess and Scott’s vow ceremony, as we want them to be the first to share those. (But trust, it was a tear jerker. More on that in a later post!)

Ummmm…. amazing! I love seeing the trip through your camera eyes! There are many moments that I didn’t even notice which you captured so beautifully.

I can also say we opened our dropbox and our mouths dropped! Can’t wait to talk with you about them and share!! You are one multi-talented lady – and so is Scott!ReplyCancel

Jess, wahooo! There’s always that time between sending off the photos and waiting to hear back that can seem like an eternity! Can’t wait to catch up on the rest of your stay.

Carrie, thank you! We took a few Polaroids at the Tower, too!

Jodi, that’s my favorite photo too – the people on the lawn. I’d like to enlarge it, but where to put it?! We’re slowly running out of wall space… And the dog’s name was Oscar. Wasn’t he the cutest?ReplyCancel

Ahhh, Paris. We honeymooned there four years ago. We fell in love with it. Wonderful city. The duck confit, the cafe au lait, the cigarettes (even though we don’t smoke). Perfect. Can’t wait to go back. Thanks for jogging my memory.ReplyCancel

This also made me super excited because Kevin and I are going to Paris (for 3 days en route to a wedding in Germany!) in December. We’ll have to confer because I’d love suggestions from you guys! I haven’t been there since I was 15, so I have a lot of catching up to do! :) Thanks for sharing your trip with us!ReplyCancel

Katharine, if you haven’t booked a hotel yet, you should check out Hotel Crayon! It was so adorable, and within walking distance to so much.

Heather, the hotel was reason enough to go to Paris! Seriously.ReplyCancel
