Paint for the Soul: Again.

As if I needed more ammunition to the ongoing great-camera-painting-debate, I stumbled upon these guys while at the Renegade Craft Fair:

Yes, I heard the resounding no when I asked for your thoughts on spraying my mom’s camera a bright, glossy pink (or yellow or white or steely gray…), which I have to admit, I was not expecting. Even spotting those “found cameras” at the big box Pottery Barn got me wondering if perhaps you were right. But. I still don’t know. And for the heck of it, here’s the infamous camera in question:

Not usually a waffler, I’m surprised I’m sitting so firmly on the fence. While the stubborn Italian in me will probably (read: who knows) end up taking a can of paint to it in the end, I still can’t help but wonder: does seeing the Renegade painted bodies change any minds? Although it may seem otherwise, your opinions help. A lot. After all, I haven’t painted it yet, right? Help! Again.

Oh wow… i’ve never seen painted cameras… and honestly, I kind of LOVE the idea!!! I think if I were in your shoes I would go for it… it turns the camera into a piece of art instantly. esp. next to that gorgeous orange elephant =)

    I vote DO IT!ReplyCancel

You have my vote! Since you’re holding onto the camera for sentimental reasons, I think painting it makes it all the more personal to you. Can’t wait to see pictures! ;)ReplyCancel

    Do it!ReplyCancel

Ah, what the heck- go for it! I think it will end up looking really cool. AND you are so cutting edge- you were thinking a fun bright pink BEFORE Pantone released the Honeysuckle color of the year!ReplyCancel

I’m pretty sure I was in the paint camp the first time around… do it. I think a painted camera will be more your style!ReplyCancel

I was a “no” vote the first time around, but I admit I like the white painted camera and so change my “no” to a “YES”!

Go for it, Kim. You know you want to!ReplyCancel

    Kimbo,
You sold me! We can’t wait to see you guys this week. A “Hot Buttered Rum” or two or three will be waiting for you upon arrival in the “Queen City”.ReplyCancel

It seems that the consensus is now a yes. Does that mean you’ll paint it?

If you still are on the fence you could always go thrift one and paint it just to see if you like it. You know, since the one that you have is sentimental and it would be a shame to paint it and not LOVE IT. Then if you do like it, you’ll have two, or you can give one away!ReplyCancel

Amanda, this is a GREAT idea, and I had actually just told Scott I might do that. I’m on the lookout for another camera!ReplyCancel

They always say if you want to buy (do) something, leave it alone for awhile, then revisit it and see how you feel. I think you have your answer. For record keeping score, I was a no/yes/no/yes, so I’m now officially a yes.ReplyCancel

Nona – to be honest, Honeysuckle was a surprise to me as color of the year, but man… it would look cute on that camera!ReplyCancel

So normally the thought of painting over a camera would send me into a fury. However…it seems to me that your style includes (but not limited to) bright, bold, and solid colors. My home is filled with mismatch everything and there is not a single bright bold color anywhere to be found. My point being-it seems like it would be more your style if you painted the camera. Whereas if I did that it would stick out like a sore thumb. But I think I remember reading somewhere that it belonged to your mother? So maybe you could find another to paint that way you wouldnt be painting over something sentimental.ReplyCancel

I worked on my own painted vintage camera this week. I love the clean artsy look of the white paint.

This is totally off topic but where did you get that orange elephant in the picture? I’ve been looking for one just like that for awhile. Thanks!ReplyCancel

Hi Cheryl! The elephant was picked up at a flea market yeeaaars ago. Sadly, there are no markings on him anywhere, so unsure of the maker.ReplyCancel
